Between this three free agents, how would you rank the likelihood that the Warriors resign them after taking care of Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins.
Here is how I see it...from most likely to be retained to least likely:
1) Barnes
2) Azubuike
3) Pietrus

You could be right.

I thought Buke had a 2 year deal though? Won't he be here automatically?

'Buike, if he doesn't opt out, is scheduled to make about $800K next season, which is actually the minimum salary for a 2-year player. I would think he has probably shown enough this season (8.4 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1 APG, 20.6 MPG, .455 FG%, played in every or almost every game this season, including 14 starts) that someone, maybe the Warriors, will give him more than $800K.

And if Pietrus keeps playing the way he has lately, and since he's "happy" now, I could see him actually coming back to the Warriors if he doesn't break the bank somewhere else. He's been a big part of Nellie's rotation. As long as Monta and Biedrins don't break the Warriors' bank, and no one offers Pietrus more than $10 or $12 mil over three years, he could be back. Someone will probably give him 4/$16, though.

Well....duh.....
A major factor may be Bird rights. I believe we gave up Bird rights on Pietrus and POB but have Bird rights on Azu and POB. We have Webber-Cro-POB gone, probably Pietrus had assumed he was out and made other plans. That leaves 4 holes for 2 draftees to fill-and Nellie will as usual ignore the rookies until February. Azu,Barnes,Watson likely return because we won't do better at the price. I don't see Nellie or Mullin that thrilled to be auditioning a bunch of guys who failed to make the Griz or Sonics. I doubt we are looking to do LLE and MLE both, and you don't want 8 guys on the bench who mostly have no real NBA minutes.
POB has to feel he's had a raw deal. If he doesn't think so----he's too dumb to keep anyhow. GSW would have to really work a miracle to salvage that. Pietrus has been hearing all year that his future is to expire and play in Florida. He's probably come to think it's his best option.
Barnes and Azu ARE better than the scrubs on most NBA teams. Look at how many games these guys score 15-25 pt or are around 8-10 boards. Now look at some other rosters and there's a lot of Joey Graham types than never score 20 or get 10 boards--and never will. These guys are worth $3 mill per to us-or anyone. They ain't $8 mill per yr guys, but we are talking less $ than Jazzy was paid. We are talking 1/3 of Foyle's pay
Pietrus' progress has escalated. a few lightbulbs came on and the train is on the tracks if a few minutes late. In the past week MP has had stretches where he was THE impact guy on the floor. Nellie has taken notice.
Is it too late? MP leaving looked automatic a month ago. Now? There's a chance that Pietrus returns (and that makes it more likely Barnes does not)
It's a matter of the front office reversing a trend and persuading MP that staying works for him. We'd probably have to use MLE. Seems a bit less than a 50-50 chance but maybe Pietrus comes back just to drive LF75 nuts

MP will probably only get the MLE. Which team gives it to him is the question.
I doubt Warriors will offer him that much.
I really doubt MP wants to remain a Warrior. I also doubt POB wants to come back

Warriors have Full Bird Rights on Pietrus. They just dont have matching rights. If a sign & trade is done, receiving team will get Full Bird Rights via the trade. If MP just signs with someone without a Warrior trade, the Bird Rights are lost. That is a major factor in Warriors favor.
Warriors have Early Bird Rights on POB but no matching rights. Same situation as above.
Warriors have Early Bird Rights & matching rights on Azu.
You mention POB twice. Did you intend to include Barnes?

Early Bird Rights are for amounts up to the MLE

So are you saying bulls6 that as long as no one offers them more than the MLE, we still have control if we want to resign them? And is that the case for all 3 of them? Because if so, (as you said) I can't seen anyone out there who will be willing to give them more than MLE on a multi-year. If that's the case, then maybe I've been a bit too hard on the FO as that would actually sounds like a pretty good strategy considering all of the uncertainty surround next season and all the important roster decisions which will have to be made

It would be intriguing if MP manages to double double rest of the games, and shooting at a decent %. Some teams knowing that he wasn't Nelson's main scoring option and playing out of position, they just might offer him more.
If MP leaves, we have to hope that Wright step up and mature, or we may be missing a piece? On the other hand, if dude manages to pull down 10+ rebounds a game, do we really want him to leave when he's putting up, lol, troy murphy kinda numbers?

Bird rights are lost only if the player signs a 1 year deal. If they (MP, Barnes, Bukie, POB) sign a deal for 3 or more years with a new team, then the new team would have full Bird rights after the deal. The only advantage is that the Warriors can sign them without using any of their MLE - but the limiting factor for Warriors FA signings won't be the MLE, but rather the luxury tax.

Outside of Bukie, the Warriors do not have matching rights on any of the other players mentioned. If they sign a contract with another team, they're gone.
As:
GS is limited in what the ownership is willing to spend due to the luxury tax, and
GS likely wants to bring back 2 of Bukie, Barnes and Pietrus for depth and continuity, and
Pietrus is likely to get the biggest offers from other teams
Barnes is the closest tied to the team for chemistry reasons
Bukie is a RFA (assuming he opts out), which will limit offers other teams and give GS the chance to match any reasonable offer.
I fully expect Barnes and Bukie to be back with GS next year, with Pietrus (and O'Bryant) to be elsewhere.
