I think he will be a good fit. Very good length and hands. But needs strength and needs to be more aggressive. He would make a good back up I think.

Interesting thing to consider is if we would even be talking about him if he was not a local kid.

His stats for his first D-leaue game 14pts\12boards\2ast\2stl\0blk
As far as I'm concerned he has as much upside as any prospect in this draft.
He just needs to put on a little weight. From the few times I've seen him in game he never struck me as a great athlete, but who knows as his time was very limited and I honestly think the problem was not meshing well with Nellie.
With our current lineup I'd rather have 2 picks from 10-18 range then a pick from 3-6. This draft is just to guard heavy for my tastes. And any way I look at it I'd rather have the FO just roll the dice on POB then spend that pick early on the current center crop. Lopez, Thabeet, and Hibbert aren't bad options, but POB could do some damage in a new situation.

dude, u should change your point of reference, Reed is a beast in the d-league. he won the last gm vs Utah by swishing a 27 foot bomb with 9 seconds left. he puts up big numbers every gm.he could definately still play in minnesota.he was never even that bad here just wittman didn't play him.

My point was not to get carried away with O'Bryant's D-League stats.
Some wrote that O'Bryant might be able to step in and be our starting center from day one based on his numbers in the D, and all I'm saying is that alot of players put up huge numbers in that league and not to get carried away.
Btw, I think Reed is a fringe NBA player, probably as good as the 10th, 11th or 12th man on most NBA teams but not a rotation player on a good team. Cleaves put up 40 in their last game, I don't want the Wolves running out and signing him either.

Hmm, I don't think anyone necessarily said he'd be a top starting center in the league, but he's clearly the best center MN would have if they signed him if you disregard that we play Al at the 5. Our front court is so undersized that just putting a guy close to 7 foot in the lineup that could possibly grab a board or block a shot makes the team better. MN has a need for a 5 more than most nba teams.
Most teams don't have a need to fill and usually have roster problems so even impressive dleague performers get overlooked. Reed and Cleaves both seem to be good enough to play on nba teams, I just dont see a need for them on most teams. The clips could probably use Cleaves. MIA could use just about any warm body! By in large there just aren't roster spots on most teams.

I've always liked Justin Reed's hussle. There are a lot of players who don't deserve to be in the NBA, he's not one of them.

I don't know about anyone else, but I think that O'Bryant can step in and be our starting center from day one based on the fact that he would be the only center on the roster next year. (Seriously, Big Al is a PF and should play PF, Richard should never be more than a backup, and Doleac is expiring)
This is all provided that the Wolves don't draft a center, though.
Return to Minnesota Timberwolves
