I agree.
It seems the majority of the press surrounding the MVP has focused on Kobe and how it is incredible he doesn't have an MVP to date. (Although, having played with Shaq in his dominant years and never having been the leader of a contending/top team, it really shouldn't be a surprise.)
If anything, I think writers have been looking for any excuse to give him the award, with the majority of their commentary having little to do with what he has done this year and more to do with legacy and what he is seemingly "owed."
That said, the guy has had a great year and deserves to be a front-runner for the award based on what he has actually done this season.

The 'Sympathy' Machine is kicking into gear, apparently:
And as for the supposedly "ridiculous" notion that Kobe's not been the best player in the game for a hot second:

And as for the supposedly "ridiculous" notion that Kobe's not been the best player in the game for a hot second:
Byron Scott wrote:"I don't think he's been runner-up. I don't think he's come in third. I think it's remarkable that he hasn't and for the past five or six years, he's been the best player in this game."

actually i feel its been quite the opposite. Writers have been doing all they can to find an excuse why not to give Kobe the MVP. Its coming to the point where their are no more excuses and writers are starting to fold in as shown above..
I think this year was looked at as Garnett's MVP to lose. Had Garnett put up, say, 21-12-3 with his usual 1-2bpg 1spg, he'd probably have won the MVP.
His numbers are so down and the west has been so competitive that, despite changing the culture and helping Boston achieve the greatest turn around in history, it is difficult to say he's been better than Bryant or even Paul.
Kobe/Paul for MVP picked up steam in the second half of the season when it became clear Garnett wasn't going to come close to finishing with statistics that could compete with Kobe's, Paul's or LeBron's and the west was so competitive.
Since that time, roughly February, the media, to me, has been backing Kobe, with a few exceptions recently.

This column does not have a vote. Judging from reports around the country, some of the voters say they'll wait until the end of the regular season to make the call between Bryant and Paul, but that makes no sense. What, Paul's Hornets finish one game behind the Lakers and suddenly he's not the best candidate? Would such a finish cost Byron Scott his shot at Coach of the Year? Nonsense. The Western Conference will be so competitive as to make an immediate joke out of records and seedings. All of the necessary evidence is in for individual awards, and the MVP is an easy call from here.

So says that guy. I consider Kobe's great season while dealing with injuries and Paul's having an absolutely historic season to be a wash. The tiebreaker for me is the W-L. I mean did you link me to Jenkins or to Jesus? Why is his opinion any more credible than mine? Considering he said the MVP race is "easy" to call, I'd say it's actually less.

Still gotta go with Paul.
He made Tyson Chandler into a all-star caliber center
David West-All Star player..
They would not be where they are without CP3....
I love Kobe, he had his best season I believe.. But when you have Lamar, Paul Gasol, and Andrew Bynum who was having a great season b4 he got hurt.. He had alot of help..
CP3 had a full season with Peja, but it's basicaly the same nucleus they had since last year.

NOH had a 2-1 lead on the Lakers..most people that hyped up that game as the deciding game were Laker fans. It was 1 game.
My criteria was never based on wins alone..if that was the case KG would be running away with it in my eyes, being 25-5 vs. the West and 7 games ahead of the 2nd best team.
Right now Kobe and Paul have the same records...same stats...same head to head record...i just dont see how anyone can see that one of them created a gap from the other.
Hmmn. That's a tough one. Maybe because Hornets have had essentilly no injuries all season and Lakers have lost Bynum, Pau, and Kobe is achieving his numbers with a constantly changing starting 5, and is playing with a torn ligament in his shooting hand.

Bynum played in just 35 games total for the Lakers this season.
Gasol has only played in 25 games for the Lakers this season.
KWAME BROWN STARTED 14 GAMES AT CENTER FOR THE LAKERS THIS SEASON.
The starting 5 for the Hornets have played together in 70+ games.
The teams have the same record.
Do the math.
