Rebuild or Not Rebuild?

Post#1 » by fo_o_fo_404 » Thu Apr 24, 2008 3:13 am

The more I see the direction this team has gone in, the more I question whether or not this team should rebuild again.

Of course, that rebuilding process should start with a new GM and new head coach/coaching staff. My 1st choice for GM is Charles Barkley....but I am sure that he wouldn't take the job. And there are plenty of very good coaches out there to choose from: Jeff Van Gundy, Larry Brown(yeah...I said it!), Mike Fratello, etc. But a new basketball philosophy is needed!

Next, IMO, every player, for the exception of JJ, Horford and Law are expendable. I would NOT resign Smoove or Chills, and would be fine with moving in another direction and cutting my losses. Of course, you try to get as much of a fair compensation for each player in return. Marvin is DONE! My patience has ran out with him....especially watching the players who were drafted right after him take the league by storm.

That 2005 draft night mistake by BK, is the single-most reason why we are where we are. And he should be held accountable for that screw up. Maybe that's the reason why the ASG didn't allow him to fire Woody. If one goes down, they both go down.

I feel we should rebuild again.....with an eye on a 2-3 year rebuilding process. And this time....build it RIGHT! But the new GM will have a major task of assembling the right pieces together.

Comments please....

Smoove is our best player. Resign him.
Marvin should stay. Did everyone watch the same game I did? Marvin was our best player, when he got a chance at the ball. Dumb coach made him sit for a long time.

Trade Bibby, Zaza, and maybe Joe.

Let Chill and Salim walk.

Rebuilding is a bit drastic. We have many positions filled but desperately need a new coach, some depth on our bench, some shooters, and some size would be nice. Most of this points towards our bench.

Why is everybody hating Marvin? He is our 3rd best player in the playoffs, behind Al and Smith. Calm down people. Marvin shouldn't go anywhere but into more plays.

We don't need to rebuild. I think we are very close right now, we just need a few more pieces this off season to provide depth (and a new coach).

I am not hating on Marvin. Just BK made a mistake in drafting him too high. It would be better to swallow if he was maybe a top ten pick. I don't know....but I am sure ownership sees Deron Williams and CP3 and says....WTF!

3rd best player in the playoffs?? That's funny bro!

And if Smith played smarter basketball, I would be inclined to say keep him. But I am NOT signing him to more than $45-50 million....I would do a S&T. And no...he is NOT the best player on the team.

Close how??

Besides JJ, Horford...and maybe Law...and maybe Childress...where are we "close?" Smoove needs to play smarter and be receptive to coaching. I think that's his downfall now. And a new GM may not want to be patient.

And how are we going to obtain this depth without giving up on some current players? We dont have draft picks....or money under the cap.

Smith>JJ in the playoffs.
Marvin>>>>Chill in the playoffs.

No one's third....that's the problem. To be considered you have to "step up" and make things happen.

If we had a third guy stepping up....we'd be more competitive.

Game one it was Horford and JJ....and that's it.

This game it was Acie and Horford...and that's it.

No 3rd's to speak of.

Acie wasn't our best player tonight. Smith was. More points than Law, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks.

look at the boxscore. Lead scorers, Smith and Marvin. Marvin also had 4 rebounds to Laws one ast. So Marvin was 2nd.

Smith and JJ are about equal. Yes, I agree that Smith has been better than Chills...but not by much

Marvin and Chills are about equal too.

No one has out done anyone...except for Rondo obliterating Bibby.

We were a .500 team down the stretch with a gimp for a PG and absolutely no depth. I think that we can be a very good team next year. Think about our starting five

Bibby- above average PG
JJ- good player, is a great player most of the time
Marvin- okay role player, should be at least above average next year
Smith- game changing defender, continuing to find himself offensively
Horford- ROY. Going to be a great center and there is no reason to believe he wont.

Maybe I have high hopes for some of these young guys, but I see Smoove becoming at least a fringe All Star next year and Horford to drop 15 & 10. We just need some depth and a coach and I think we can win 45- games or more.

Marvin and Smith was the players of the game. Not Law. See people just say a player like Law was the best because our starting PG sucks, and people hate Marvin for some reason.

OK....

Yes, Smoove was the leading scorer....but he shot 3-13 (26.5%) and committed 5 TO. Marvin shot 3-9 (33%). I give you the 4 blocks....but those silly turnovers off set that.

Acie shot 100% from the field and from the foul line in limited minutes.

Once again....how are we going to get some depth...without going over the cap?

I don't know all teh cap rules but every team is over the cap, so we can get guys I'm sure. We have the MLE I assume and Andersen coming over. I also think J-Rich and Rio will be solid bench players next year, especially if we have a coach who gives them a chance.

I'm not going to fight another Hawk fan over who is the best player in a blow-out anyways. All I will say is I stand behind my Hawk player, in Marvin, and also we are all fans of the same team here. Why bash our young, up and coming players like Marvin. When we got players like Bibby and Zaza, who seem like they don't want to be here.

Outsider here....

Don't think you guys need to rebuild. First step is a new coach, of course. But with a new coach and hopefully a new philosophy the team could be much better.

JJ, Horford, Smith, Marvin and Law are 5 young players who are (or will be in the case of Law) starter-quality players. There's still some serious young talent there, no matter how bad they've played the last 2 games. Depth can be acquired via mid-level exception and draft picks.

Really, the important first step is changes beyond the roster itself. The talent level is at least good enough to be in a 4-5 seed in the Eastern Conference given proper guidance and more experience.

No fight!

Just expressing opinions. You have yours...and I have mine.

My POV may be a little different because I work with them...and I see things behind the scenes.

But no fight....I love people who stand behind who they believe in.
