Our problems.
NOT MARVIN. Let's get that straight first. Marvin bashers leave now.
First the coach. He needs to go. Enough about him, I'm not wasting my breath on him, since he doesn't waste his breath on the sidelines.
2nd, Zaza. Boston fans was more active than him.
3rd. Bibby. Sitting on the bench at times laughing. Why? Because he sucks.
4th, Chill. Yes, Chill.
I don't know where I'm going with this thread, all I know is I am mad. Mad at the team, and mad at the posts I see about Smith and Marvin sucks. Besides Horford, they are our 2 best players in the playoffs so far.
I saw a "Marvin sucked tonight" post by someone on here. I saw good things from Marvin tonight. Woodson had him sitting on the bench all of the 3rd I think, while Chill and Zaza was on the floor doing nothing.

^ I don't mind Chill being on the team. I am just tired of hearing Marvin sucks, when that is why he is starting over Chill. Marvin gets the ball like only 3 times a game passed to him. He drives, passes, shoots his free throws, and makes them. Marvin defends as best as he can, he is more active than what most is saying.

I really was disappointed with JJ tonight. He was unsure about every play, hesitated when he shouldn't. At least Bibby kept shooting or trying, but JJ really got on my nerves. Marvin wasn't terrible, the only thing that bothers me about his game is how easily PP can score on him, he's 6'9/230lbs, no excuses. I was glad to see J. Smith come out with that much intensity. He's not great, but took the challenge and came out to play. Now, their team is much better and this series is just showing us how far we're from being competitive. I bet you whatever that Philly and even the Pacers would've made one of these 2 games a bit closer than we did. M. Woodson is clueless about the rotation and whatever hes got to do. He's gone after this season, that's for sure. I just hope we get a win, that would make it so much more worthwhile. I think guys like Horford and Smith have worked hard enough to deserve a win. It's up to the other guys give them some help.
GO HAWKS.

I don't think Marvin sucks, but I do question whether he'll be worth the salary he will probably command after next season. He's also our only most likely piece to be able to fix a flawed roster with. Honestly, I wouldn't be opposed to keeping him and seeing how he plays (and develops) with a different coaching staff. Like Skyhawk said, I'm more disappointed with his D than anything else.
I hate our coaching staff and have for years. I pray it is ending soon and would love to sign the Boston assistant who specializes in D or Avery Johnson if he gets fired from Dallas (although he has some in game strategy decisions that have totally lost me over the years.
As far as the series goes, it isn't much worse than I expected. I hoped we could sneak up on them and steal one on the road, but KG is too focused to let that happen. We have to battle and win one at home which will be a monumental task, but mean a lot for the team's long term confidence.

I've been a Woodson backer (actually, I've argued that we needed to wait on him to develop), but he is killing us. I know he's trying to run this Bobby Knight/Larry Brown blend of motion offense, and the idea may be great, but his players haven't gotten it. Either his scheme is poor or the players just can't understand it. As I see it, either Woodson has a lousy idea of what he's doing or he's a lousy teacher. No matter how it plays out, that makes him a lousy coach. Look at his (high priced / high draft pick) failures:
I might be the biggest Marvelous backer in existence (short of his mother), but we have to seriously discern why he disappears so often. In Woodson's offense, it seems that Marvin's job is to just stand around.
I love JJ, but we have to stop him from doing so much dribbling. I know Woodson wants him to control the ball, and I know that Woodson knows more basketball than I ever will, but this seems stupid to me. JJ needs to be a catch-and-shoot SG. All the other guys are just standing around watching him dribble; ... and if he DOES try to pass out of the double-team, he seems to have trouble seeing the open man. That's curious to me, since he is - otherwise - so good at playmaking. Maybe when he focuses on his dribbling, his vision is obscured.
Smoove's only half-court move seems to be to wait on the diagonal for the ball and then either shoot the 3 or slash to the basket.
Horford is stuck on the high post where he shoots 15-18 footers or passes. We can't post him up in our offense.
If you can't guess, I think we have the most inane offense scheme in the NBA. A high school team runs better sets.

My mother told me, she said, "Elwood, to make it in this world you either have to be oh, so clever or oh, so pleasant." Well, for years I was clever; I recommend pleasant.

Yeah, considering that they are the best defensive team in the game and you step up your defense in the post season, I'm not really suprised they are whuppin our asses.
In fact, we held them to 41% shooting so that is a plus. Our shooters aren't hitting open shots and that is a big problem because they are just packing it now and daring us to go to the low post or slash to the hoop. For all Bibby's terribleness on D we kept them from scoring efficiently, imagine if he could hit an open J and spread the floor... we know that Smith and Horford can work inside against KG and co. but not if they can be doubled without the threat of a shooter.
Anyway, if our shooters can't hit their shots and we aren't going to consistently push, we have no reason to think that they won't beat us by 20 every game regardless of how well we play D.

Conley nails it!
There are way too many things going wrong for it to be one thing. Boston makes a 6 point lead grow to 13 very quickly. We lost at many facets, especially rebounding.
It's hard for this city to get behind this team and I don't expect a sellout for Game 3, but we have to make adjustments because Boston has the formula that is killing us!
We have to hit our jumpers. In 48 minutes, we attempted 5 3 pointers! Are you kidding? Chills passed up a handful of those, and he doesn't look like one who has one of the better percentages on this team. Get Marvin behind the line at least 2 times per quarter to see if he can help.
They are taking JJ away from his game, plain and simple. For Game 3, make Bibby a distributor only. Take him away from shooting those shots he took. While he should be hitting them, something tells me he isn't at the level he usually plays at. I like his makeup, but his job is to set up others first, then take his turn.
More minutes for Acie and maybe Salim at the end of quarters to give the backcourt a breather. I look to get to Philips on Saturday to see a much more improved team.

Bibby's ability to distribute comes from the fact that teams have to respect his J. He isn't a penetrator who can disrupt the D like that, he can't draw a double in the post, he doesn't have the vision to be a great fast-break qb or find cutters. He isn't a terrible distributor but its hard to say that he should be a distributor only if his J isn't falling.

It's something I wish more Atlanta fans would understand. Marvin's killing this team because of it and some fans don't even see it.
Yeah, getting a set shooter would be really useful - like Korver in Utah. It would help spread the floor for Al/Smith/Joe... you don't need 5 guys who can go one on one.
That is also why we look so much better when Bibby's shot is dropping.

to Continue what I am bitching about in the other thread:
Making Marvin a three point shooter is just plain dumb. THAT is not killing our team. What is killing our team is that we have no one going to the rim. Marvin was the guy earlier in the year, but since JJ started playing well, he has been regulated to being the kickout option for his midrange shot.
Marvin Williams...Incredible first step, can handle the ball like a guard at 6'9", can create contact and get to the line, competant midrange shooter with feet set.
Why would you not play to those strengths and say "Hey, I know we hav etwo guys that jack up threes at the 1 and 2...how about another one at the 3 position too? That has won plenty of championships...right?"
Outside of Detroit and the Hornets(the Hornets do in theory), you aren't going to fine a championship caliber team that has more that 2 three point threats on the court at the same time when they have their best 5 on the court.
Utah? No.
Phoenix? No.
San Antonio? No.
Boston? No.
Laker? No.
But you guys thing THAT is what is holding this team back?
