LAMAR ODOM!!!
Seriously though.... We NEED to make a run at Odom!!! He is a GREAT FIT for the Warriors and doesn't get in the way of the way we play. He is a VERSATILE PLAYER that fills our biggest void, REBOUNDING. Him being long doesn't hurt either. He will be longer body who will keep the ball movement flowing.

It's alright to wish that a good player from another team is on the Warriors and Odom is a good player. But why would the Lakers trade him?
Next year they'll have Bynum, Gasol and Odom in their front court to start the season. That's as good as anyone's and gives them a big advantage over almost all opponents.
How can a trade with the Warriors make them better? If Baron were added to the Lakers, there wouldn't be enough basketballs to go around. Who can we give - Harrington and our draft pick?
Keep on dreaming though.

Even if Odom was willing to come to GS (and I believe he would be in order to be "top dog" perhaps), LA would never let him (unless they somehow can rape us in the process).

An Odom deal is reckless... absolutely no reason to do it.
He makes 14 m or so this season... So we'll have to trade a massive contract to get him. That means Baron or Harrington... obviously can't do Baron for value reasons... so the Lakers would have to be willing to trade Odom for an inferior, more broken down version that can't handle as well?
Well, say we could add to Harrington... what could we add? Kosta? Belinelli? A first rounder? Why? Odom's a Nellie PF... put him in a traditional non-triangle / non-gimmick offense, and you have an undersized bone-headed PF to deal with. So we'd be trading for him for one season, and giving up an asset (likely the 1st rounder - those 2 shmucks arent assets) to do it.
So our final offer would look something like: Harrington/Beli/Kosta for Odom. The soon to be GM of the Year would laugh in our faces.
Odom's a pipe dream.

i'm not too educated on financial issues... but isn't it safe to say that the Bynum/Gasol/Odom/Kobe lineup won't be together for too long? Kobe, Odom and Gasol already take up most of the payroll. Bynum is due for a big raise isn't he? A team THAT good can only last so long bc of $$ issues. F*** the Lakers!

It all depends on how much money the Lakers want to give up in luxury tax. You can pretty much always re-sign your own players as their contracts expire even if the new contract puts you over the cap, and even if you are already over the cap before the new contract. The bird exceptions let you keep your own players as long as you are willing to pay the luxury tax bill.
They made 31million dollars in profit last year, and the team is worth about 500million (growing at 13% per year.)
I don't see how financial issues will realistically stop the lakers from keeping any team together they want. If they win a ring this year, I would expect them to bring everyone back and just pay more tax.

That's why I love the As. Sell high and buy low. Here they are once again competing with one of the lowest salaries in the league. They let Toronto steal Frank Thomas for about 10 Mil a year, wait until they cut him and pick him back up for less than they paid when he hit 39 homers for them.
The problem with teams like the Lakers and the Yankees in Baseball (probably can throw the Cubans in as well) who will pay whatever it takes to "buy" the best players is that things don't turn out the way they expect, people get popped for steroids and other crimes, get seriously injured and there goes their investment.

The Lakers only have like a gazillion titles. The Celtics invented the Larry Bird exception.
Oh, and the Yankees have more MLB championships than pretty much the rest of the known universe combined.
Spending money = winning in professional sports.
The A's put on a good show, but they aren't serious about championships.

isn't it common knowledge that Odom doesn't like being the "top dog" (or is it dawg.. or dogg... what are the kids saying these days)?
he has said he likes being in LA and wants to finish his career there in order to keep his family in LA and continue working on his various entertainment investments he is a part of. That plus the fact that he has always hated the pressure of living up to his unreal skillset (which by the way is hands down the most impressive skillset for anyone over 6 10)...
anyways, i'm a firm believer that we arent winning anything in the next couple years.. no point using assets to get players over 28 unless its someone like kidd that could actually help the development of our players.
