KG and Zaza Altercation in it's entirety. Referee push!

Post#1 » by fo_o_fo_404 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 7:37 am

This is from the Boston coverage...and shows a great angle of the push KG gave to Eddie F. Rush.

From this vantage point....I feel KG SHOULD be suspended.

David Stern had that "look" on his face...standing next to Stu Jackson

According to league rules, KG, Kendrick Perkins and Marvin Williams should ALL be suspended one game without pay.

I wonder how Stern would justify not suspending KG

"We expected this" What did the announcers mean by that? To listen to the rest of their commentary they think Atlanta's only chance is to use a backup to get KG tossed.

Here's my breakdown.

Pachulia had his hand on KG's shoulder trying to keep him from jumping for the rebound. Foul on Zaza (as it was called on the floor).

KG throws an elbow at Zaza's chin missing the elbow but connected with the forearm in the upper chest. Technical on KG (as it was called on the floor).

Zaza comes back at him to go face to face. I feel whether it was a head butt is up to the interpretation of the league. Zaza didn't pull his head back and thrust it forward (like a wrestling head butt), but his huge forehead does protrude so he may be incapable of not head butting. Technical on Zaza (called on the floor).

Joe is standing next to them and pushes them apart.

Sam Cassell pushes Joe in the back. Technical on Sam (called after replay).

KG discards the ref with a push in what appears to be an attempt to get back into the altercation.

Joe turns and pushes Sam back. Words are exchanged. Technical on Joe (called after replay). Woodson separates them.

Josh Childress laughing as he escorts Woodson up the court. Al is restraining Zaza as Woodson and Zaza yell at each other.

I can't see the Hawks bench at all so I can't comment on Marvin. Kendrick did step on to the floor, but weirdly he did it before the altercation because he was standing on the sideline watching the game. After the altercation started he took a step to his left for a better view. I don't feel he walked toward the incident.

The Boston announcers seem very certain it was a head butt from Zaza, but they refer the elbow as KG "trying to get him off of him".

Adding on, I just saw ESPN's closeup of the Atlanta bench and Marvin is standing on the sideline with his left foot barely on the court. It doesn't appear that he is going on to the court just that he is standing in the bench area. I say this because at the angle he is standing his left foot is actually further away from the play. They actually have to zoom in to show it even over the line. IMO, if he is suspended for that it will be a horrible interpretation of the rule because of how narrow it would define the bench area. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

Expect suspensions to:
Kendrick Perkins for being unlucky to be standing on the court when an altercation occurs.
Marvin Williams for standing on the far end with his left foot over the line.
Zaza Pachulia for standing up to a star and thus creating the altercation. I'm expecting in twisted NBA logic if he turned the other cheek to the forearm/attempted elbow nothing would have happened. They can always declare it was a head butt if they need justification.

I still don't expect KG to get suspended. His elbow didn't connect and the forearm hit upper chest/throat not chin or head. The push of the ref could be waived off as he didn't realize who was holding him back in the confusion and wasn't an overt bump.

Maybe it is just the defeatist in me, but that's what I expect.

Wow. Boston announcers are quite horrid there.

So apparently, this was the only way we could win the game...

And the officials were looking at the Atlanta broadcast so they probably were looking at a angle that would make Garnett look bad.

Oh, and KG was just trying to get Zaza off him. By elbowing him in the face.

BTW, I forgot to add in my initial post. The refs called the play right including the personal on Zaza and all 4 techs.

As for Marvin, while I expect a suspension if Kendrick does get suspended, I hope they have better footage than what ESPN showed. The ESPN footage shows a guy standing in the bench area with one foot over the line. If he is suspended for that, it would be a new more narrow interpretation of what leaving the bench area means than what seemingly was used in the past.

If Zaza is suspended, I believe KG will be suspended too.

The issue with the KG push is how strict the rule is. I have read that Stern has a zero tolerance policy for ANY sort of contact that is initiatiated with an official. If that is true, then he will almost certainly be suspended. If the rule is open to interpretation, I think we'll see him on Wednesday.

KG will be suspended, given the suspensions of last years Spurs Suns serioes, i fully expect it, and rightfully so. He had a mental slip, but u can't do that to an official, no way around it

I still cant get over the Boston announcers. Hilarious. Where was Heinsohn? He probably would have argued that KG didn't touch anyone.
