Whos stock will rise/fall the most between now and the draft

Post#1 » by cdash » Fri May 2, 2008 11:16 am

Players havent started working out for teams yet and we dont know the exact order of the lottery yet, so things are going to change between now and draft day. Who's stock do you think will rise/fall as we get closer to the draft?

Rise: DeAndre Jordan, Brandon Rush, Robin Lopez, JJ Hickson, Jason Thompson, OJ Mayo (I think when its all said and done that he will be the consensus #3 guy in this draft), Joey Dorsey

Fall: Russell Westbrook, Ty Lawson, ???

Of course its hard to tell these things because the measurements will make or break some players (Kevin Love, DJ White, Eric Gordon come to mind), and we dont know who will get the better of individual matchups (I bet Gordon, Bayless, and Mayo are pitted up against each other a lot), but its fun to speculate.

I expect Ajinca to rise. He's huge and athletic. He has all upside as Jordan and is playing pretty well in France.

I expect Brook Lopez to slide the most.

I expect Eric Gordon, Anthony Randolph and Danillo Gallinari to move up.

Rule of thumb, athletic players (workout wonders) tend to rise, while players whose game is based on skill and iq in 5-on-5 ball tend to fall.

At least one of the 7' wonders will have one or two fluke good workouts and cause the GM in attendance to fall in love.

Totally agree. That's why I think DeAndre Jordan will rise; hes got the size and skill set that makes scouts and GM ooze.

I see Eric Gordon falling hard before the draft. He'll test out well athletically, but some other limitations will become more apparent.

DeAndre will hold steady, but fall on draft day. One of those players who'll be projected high until the very end. At that point, no GM will want to take a risk a high pick on a guy who's so far from contributing.

Gordon wont fall out of the top 10.

GMs alllllways risk high picks on guys who are far from contributing, especially big men with Jordan's skill set. I'd be pretty shocked to see him fall out of the top 12.

I think guys that have the type of game that will look great in workouts will rise.

DeAndre Jordan probably will rise (assuming that his lackluster performances late in the season caused him to drop). Serge Ibaka will probably rise when teams get wowed by his physical skills (which according to many are scary). Bill Walker will probably also rise (him being in the 2nd round is a bit crazy). Donte Greene will probably rise as well since he should be able to do more than just settle for 3's in workouts. These guys should have a field day with drills and 3-on-3's.

Fall:
Kevin Love: gonna go against too many guys with better workout skills
CDR: Bad form jump shot and bad dribbling skills will doom him in draft

Rise
Randolph: Could fight for the #4 pick considering its such a crap shoot
Walker: The knee looked a lot better in tourney, imagine three months later

Thank god....another person who is probably just as baffled as I am/was when others praise CDR's handle and penetrating ability.....I thought I was alone

as for my answer to this thread

Rise: Randolph, Arthur, McGee, Lee, Alexander, Hendrix & Thompson

Fall: Love, Augustin, & Jordan

I think some of you guys are putting too much stock in pre-draft workouts.

Nah we arent predicting that these guys will all jump a bunch of spots in the draft, we are just saying that some players benefit from pre-draft workouts and what not. I dont think anyone is saying that this is the most important part of the process.
