One knock on the head and TJ will never play again.

I think he's only 50:50 to last next season.
I remember when the Dolphins were perennial contenders

I liked TJ Ford but I would be concerned about his injury history and his size. We don't have a defensive stopper back there to clean up mistakes and with a Ford-Wade backcourt we would have to cover for two guys.

The outside shooting thing concerns me less. Ford is a guy who can penetrate and create for others. In the Shaq-less future of this team, that is a facet our offense can now use.

Even if we don't get Beasley or Rose, the next two players I would consider drafting play in the backcourt (Bayless and Mayo). I am not sure I would trade away the farm for Ford if we don't need him.

Plus I don't think he's some huge liability on his jumpshot, his shot improved as his overall play did as the season went on, he shot over 40% from 3 in March-April (13/32) in far more important games. He also had games of 5 and 4 threes made and gave reason to suspect he will improve in that aspect.

Exactly. Many people seem to think that if Wade drives and kicks it out, the only way to effectively end the play is by hitting an open three. Wade/Rose's drives will knock the defense off its track, sometimes allowing the other a lane to drive and finish. I still think we need a shooter, but I could see us being like an NBA version of Rose's Tigers, if we draft him.

No, Golden State relies on ball movement and forcing the tempo to get shots early on the shot clock hence why the lead the league in scoring. Typical Nellie Ball.

Memphis plays what they call the Walberg Offense (because of former coach Vance Walburg) or the "Princeton on Steroids" offense where all perimeter players attack the basket with drives and kicks until the defense breaks and they get the open shot. Very similar to the Princeton offense which sort of has the same principles but instead demands for other players to cut to the basket as well.

IMO this would be the ideal system for a team with Rose and Wade as the core.

I got the teams confused. The Net use that system. So basically we would try to replicate the Nets with our big three of Wade/Rose/Marion?

I guess miami will take w/e Toranto does not want lol..

The Miami Herald -
If the Heat aren't able to select a suitable point guard in this June's NBA Draft, they could try to acquire the services of Toronto's Jose Calderon, according to the Miami Herald.

I don't want Ford, and while I'd like Calderon, I wouldn't like to trade what we'd need to trade to get him.

If I'm not mistaken, Calderon is a RFA.. and I recall Colangelo saying he is going to match ANY offer anyone throws at Jose.

Calderon

1) Won't take the MLE
2) Will take a salary that makes him BYC and very hard to work a trade
3) Has more value to Toronto than his worth
4) Is probably only near in trade value to a package including Haslem, who plays the same position as their franchise player
5) We can't offer additional draft picks until 2011 (or later if we suck next year) due to the Minny trade.

It just won't happen.

Eric deserves the opportunity to coach a "fresh PG", we need to stay away from FA's, seriously. Haven't we learned anything from bidding on other teams FA's, they get rich, we get desperate.

Let's just wait until May 20 to see what pick we have and draft the best player or the best PG available at the position we get. Develop that player into what you need/wan him to be.

Quick fixes is are not the way to go this time, that's too much pressure to put on Eric, he deserves a developmental year.

The scuttlebutt around Toronto is that the Raptors braintrust is looking at a deal starting in the $8.5m range...with, of course, some wiggle room if another team offers more in terms of an offer sheet.

Calderon would be a fantastic backcourt partner with Wade, but you're correct; the teams just don't have the pieces to put together a trade that would be reasonable for both sides, unless the Heat are extremely unlucky in the draft...and equally uninterested in the prospects available at #4 (with Toronto adding some value). Again, the odds are quite slim.
