Ray Allen's shot was not goaltending.

I did not see the shot. So I can't make a opinion on whether it was or wasn't. But to back up what the poster said, he is not the only one saying this. A couple of outlets on the radio had questioned it.

Just for clarification. The NBA rules state that if the ball hits the backboard but has no chance to go in, a player can make contact and it not be goaltending. Since Ray's shot hit the side of the backboard, it definetely didn't have a chance to go in and therefore was not goaltending according to the rules.

Any player can make contact with any shot that obviously has no chance going in, even after it hits the back board.

The charge call on PP was ridiculous. It's inexcusable that the refs didn't conference on that call. I have no idea how they could have gotten that wrong, it wasn't even close.

Do you know how stupid that makes you sound?

That's a little out of line, please crawl back to the Atlanta board and discuss your plans for next year, coming here and antagonizing Celtics fans gains you nothing. In fact you should be rooting for the Celtics - a loss in this round diminishes what Atlanta was able to accomplish.

You should also google Bavetta - there is a boatload of information out there. And while I don't believe in flying saucers or bigfoot or ghosts I've been around long enough to understand that the more money involved - the more likely things are not on the up and up.

Wrong
It was not ruled to have no chance to go in. The refs simply missed the fact that it hit the backboard. I would have no problem had they made that call, but they didn't. They missed the call completely.

Exactly
and the day after we find out Donaghy bet on his own games I wouldn't rule out anything.

Exactly. It's just the home team getting some borderline calls. It happens all the time. And as you said, I certainly won't complain when we get some calls in our favor in game 7.

People just need to grow up.

We haven't gotten HUGE, blatantly wrong calls down the stretch at home. Cleveland has. I don't care if we still end up winning, this series could have been over last night. Instead Detroit gets 4 more days of rest.

Check the general board. There are links to the rules where it clearly states that there is no goaltending if the shot has no chance to go in. There was no goaltending, what does it matter how they arrived at that decision? Perhaps that is a minor error if they didn't notice that D West swatted it afterward, but they still arrived at the correct result (two FT's for Ray) because there was no goaltending on the play.

Yes, and it had absolutely no chance of going in. That's essentially the same as KG goal tending every player's shots after the ref has blown the whistle and the play dead. The fact that many Celtic fans are whining about that is sad.
