LA TIMES wrote:Jackson said that forward Trevor Ariza, who has not played since Jan. 20, looked active in practice today.

This was Ariza's second day of practice since he was cleared by doctors after suffering a broken bone in his right foot.

"He looked like he's much more comfortable than he did Tuesday," Jackson said of Ariza. "We're just going a day at a time with this."

Jackson would not specify if Ariza would play Friday.

The two Lakers on the active list who did not play in Game 5 were center Chris Mihm and forward Ira Newble.

Phil on Kobe:

"I think he'll have no problem. He came out and shot with the rest of the players."

Phil on Ariza:

"Asked if Ariza would play today in Game 6 in Salt Lake, Jackson said, "probably not."

But Ariza could be back soon enough.

"He looked good," Jackson said. "He looked more comfortable than he did the other day - Tuesday - the last time he played. We're just going a day at a time with this. We hope he continues improving day by day." "

Bynum's now going to get surgery. I remember the Times saying that one of his doctors would recommend it but they would wait and see. I hope this will lead to him healing up properly. Good luck big guy.
The Lakers announced today that center Andrew Bynum will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee this week.

The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday in New York and involves cleaning some rough spots and fraying on the underside of his kneecap. It will be performed by Dr. David Altchek.

The team will release a report of the surgery and estimated timeline of return on Wednesday.

Bynum has been out since Jan. 13 with a bone bruise in the knee and a subluxation of the kneecap -- a brief dislocation that popped back into place.

It will be a relief to finally get a more definitive outlook on the injury. Hopefully its nothing major. We'll just have to wait and see.

I think this is great news personally. Obviously, you never want your young stud C to go through surgery.

But there is so much unknown, now they know for damn sure what the problem is once they get in there.

Guess?? He'll be good to go August or September

This is rough, Bynum wasn't even done blooming athletically. Instead of improving his base this summer he'll be trying to get back to where he was. Oh well I can't get greedy I guess, the next two things I thought he needed to improve were his upper body strength and his core; with this knee surgery I think he can still work out those areas. right?

But just because you are hampered physically it doesnt mean you can't improve, ask Bill Russell.

But the Lakers medical staff just sucked with Bynum. We wasted like 3 monthes for no results and now we are going with the surgery. WTF are they doing

This surgery should have been done way earlier, any way now Drew can prepare for training camp and be ready for next season.

If he got hurt in late Jan. Why is he barely having surgery in late may? Was he mis-diagnosed?

Last time they mentioned this, it was just going to be "Exploratory Arthroscopic surgery"... Which isn't really surgery at all, unless they find something...

Is this still what's going on or have they actually determined a cause for Bynum's gimpiness...

Nothing would kill me more than if they came back and said... "Nope, we still don't see anything wrong..."

well, this is how Oden's injury was diagnosed and why he had microfracture. If it's a normal scoping procedure they might see some floating bodies that need to be cleaned up. That would be 6 week recovery for most instances.

I think Bynum will be fine, the surgery these days is great, and he's much more reliant on size, length and power more so than quickness or explosion. That's if he needs micro fracture surgery.
