If he would measure close to 6'10 with shoes...could we stand pat and put a team out there with Beasley, Haslem, Marion, Wade and Wright?

Nothing wrong with Shawn Marion on that list, but of course he doesn't include guys like Karl Malone (6'9"), Elton Brand (6'8"), Charles Barkley (6'6"), David West (6'9"), and Antwan Jamison (6'9") who are all right around Beasley's height, or a bit less in Barkley's case (he was listed as 6'6", but was actually like 6'4").
quote]

Yeah, this is exactly my point - that there are plenty of other quality players out there that guys like Maxiell, Landry, etc. shouldn't be the comparison. No disrespect to Marion intended. He just happened to be included on the list. Plus, I don't like him as a PF. Only in NBA Live.

To add on to the list: Clarence Weatherspoon (OHHHH YEAH!)

I like the Jamison comparison a lot.

To all that assumed Beasley was 6-8 1/2 without shoes...you're wrong.

Because Michael Beasley came in at "plus five" with his wingspan, the Heat believes he very much can play power forward, despite measuring in at 6 feet 8 1/2 inches in shoes.

6'8.5" in shoes? then what is he like 6'7" or even below barefoot????

As Riley would say when he saw TJ Ford, how short is this guy?

nevertheless........

Beasley is BEST PLAYER IN THE DRAFT

he'll get listed as 6"9(in the NBA) and all this will become a afterthought

I still like to hold out till it's official

Beasley measured 6'9" with shoes a year ago. Now he's shorter?

http://www.draftexpress.com/article/200 ... -Analysis/

I've learned not to believe SS blogs until I see it official elsewhere. The SS blogs also had the Phins taking Vernon Gholston according to "mutiple sources"...

Beside, even if Beasley is 6'8.5" with shoes, that's still nearly an inch taller than an older Haslem measured out of college with shoes. Not to mention Beasely's wingspan measures longer as well.

So we'd be getting bigger at PF by drafting Beasely, not smaller, even under the worst-case measurement.

Wingspan is very important in the NBA, much moreso than height. So Beasley being right at 6'9" with a good wingspan is more than fine at PF. He's a passionate basketball player and that's where the most important measurements lie.

P.S. An example of height not meaning everything is Yao Ming. He's the tallest player in the NBA, but has super short arms for his height. If he had a wingspan to match his height then he'd probably be a great defender, not an average one.

Beasley's wingspan is 7'1.5'', that's not too bad, but really I think this whole talk about Beasley's height is overstated. He may be too short to be a F/C, but that's ok, his game is more of a PF/SF type anyway. It doesn't mean he's not going to score and rebound in droves and it doesn't mean he's a bad fit for the team. The ONLY thing i'm concerned about is his professional attitude and even those concerns are minor.

Perhaps Beasley was wearing different shoes last year when he got measured at 6'9. I've never seen them get measured, but do they get to wear whatever shoes they want, or is it one specific brand of shoe that they have to use each time?
For a long time it gave me nightmares, witnessing an injustice like that. It’s a constant reminder of just how unfair this world can be.I can still hear them taunting him, Silly Rabbit tricks are for kids.I mean why couldn’t they just give him some cereal?

5 more inches of wingspan then his height. So his height is 6'8 1/2 that means his wingspan is 7'1 1/2 (which is very good).

Usually, they do the +/- wingspan based on the shoe-less height.

Here's a new article on Beasley by Ira:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/bask ... 1096.story

I particularly like this quote:

"His game is about quickness," Riley said of Beasley. "It's about the ability to change at the rim, left- to right-handed. His shuttle speed was actually better than most guards. His ability was better than most guards in the camp.

"He'd out-quick any power forward. He'd be able to muscle with 'em, too."

Out-quick any power forward and muscle with em too, this at 19 years old. In 3 years he'll be dominating. This is why he was projected to go first. The more I look at it, the more I think Beasley would be better for this team than Rose.

Riley says Beasley measures up
LINK
When it comes to measuring up, Michael Beasley apparently meets Heat standards as a power forward.

While the official numbers from last week's measurements and testing at the Orlando draft camp have yet to be released, Heat President Pat Riley said Monday that Beasley measured in at 6 feet 8 1/2 inches in shoes.

However, Riley said Beasley's other measurements more than compensate.

"He's got a plus-five wingspan," Riley said, which would give Beasley the wingspan of a player 7-1 1/2. "He's got a 35-inch vertical. He goes 21 inches above the rim, jumping."

Riley said Beasley "tested extremely well in all the measurements," coming in at 238 pounds and 7 1/2-percent body fat. Heat trainer Bill Foran was among those who worked at the camp.

Riley said Memphis point guard Derrick Rose, projected by many as the top overall selection, left few doubts with his testing.

"The other kid," he said of Rose, "is probably the best athlete in the whole camp. From an athleticism and basketball standpoint, these two 19-year-olds proved they have a game. I think both of them are fearless."

When it came to tipping his hand, Riley sidestepped the issue of Rose's quiet demeanor and Beasley's outgoing nature.

"They're at the opposite ends of the spectrum as far as personalities go," Riley said. "But they're both good personalities."

I really hope Riley isn't blowing smoke and we stick with B-ease. He may not have dominant size, but he has an ideal prototypical skill-set for the PF position. I just don't want to see him at SF.

If he is 6 8.5 with shoes.

My guess he is around 6 7.25 without shoes.

So plus 5, is around a little bit higher 7.25 wingspan. Carmelo has a 7 foot wingspan, T Mac a 7 3 wingspan, Durant a 7 5.

238 pounds, he is looking a bit like SF/PF. LeBron weights at 250.

So if Beasley might turn into a tweener. We should hold off any trades, till later in the season. To assess how to make the team better. Also this year, we will not be contending for a title, so what's the rush to make the team so much better.
