Nah...

Being an **** doesn't constitute wit. Anyone can think of nasty things to say.
He was a great player, but also the consumate arrogant ****, which is why I never liked him, in addition to the boring iso ball he popularized.
There's a difference between being confident and being an ****. Confident players don't put down teammates, for one thing. **** do. And only people who are slobbering adoring sycophants think nastiness constitutes wit and humor.

But not everyone can make nasty things funny. Look at you, for example!

MJ really was a gigantic dick and ****. I mean, he really was. Read Sam Smith's "The Jordan Rules" - hilarious book that refuses to fawn over MJ instead offering warts and all portrayal.
Players today are vilified for FAR FAR LESS than the things he used to say. But on the other hand he was imo the greatest player of all time. That sort of greatness buys you a lot of leeaway, he was actually able to back up his dickish-ness with 6 (!) titles.

I ain't even mad that Jordan said those things. It's funny stuff to read. The bad thing is that other players can say something less critical and get more criticism from the media and fans. MJ gets less criticism for being one of the sports ultimate winners; winning excuses being a dick. The other reason is he said it back in the 80's and 90's before message boards and blogs.
Funniest quote to me is, "I'm sure everything will be fine as long as we are winning, but if we start losing, I'm shooting." He was like F the BS I'm taking over if the rest of the squad sucks....

What's also funny is that most of these quotes were taken out of context, and, when read with the surrounding context from the book, aren't as bad as they sound in isolation. Someone actually went through many of them and posted the context and it made lots of these quotes a lot more palatable.
And all of them are from a single book that was written by a guy looking to make a name for himself; it was a blatant hatchet job. Not that Jordan wasn't a jerk at times, but let's be real here.

I don't know why people overreact to this. So he was an ass, who cares; he was a winner. And most of these quotes are funny as hell.
