I wouldn't mind Melo on the team for the right package.....sure he can't play D but he isn't afraid to shoot and he'll only get better under someone other than George Karl!

Melo is a chronic underachiever just like Rasheed and the rest of the Pistons. I think on paper this looks good, but when the playoffs roll around, he's going to do nothing but brick jump shots.

AGENT: Carmelo Not Going to Detroit, Yet

Post#46 » by memrs » Mon Jun 9, 2008 11:43 pm

DENVER (MyFOXColorado.com) - So exactly what is the chance of Denver Nuggets franchise star Carmelo Anthony taking his gig to Motown?

Perhaps about the same chance of Diana Ross taking out all of her fake hair live on camera.

a little harsh on Diana Ross, I think.

Liqourish wrote:^ As it will be. If Detroit wanted any part of Melo they would have drafted him. They saw him for what he is years ago. No need to make the mistake you avoided, five years later.

This is nothing more than a Denver reporter trying to stir up discussion.

It is not very often that I read a truly unique idea (one that has not been thought by any sentient being in the history of the universe). Your belief that the Pistons "avoided" a mistake by drafting Darko Milicic with the second overall pick is just such an idea, and I congratulate you for it.

No way does Detroit have

6 Eastern Conference Final Apperances
2 NBA Finals Apperances
1 NBA Title

If they had Melo instead of Prince.

That defensive identity and team basketball was paramount to their success.

Melo wasn't a bad defender in college, and he wouldn't be a bad defender in that environment.

LOL, you are soooo right. Melo may be a great player, but he couldn't lead the Pistons to 6 ECF's in 5 years. That's how long he has been in the league.

Thanks for the nice example of how clueless people are about Melo. Can't decide if it is hate (some sure is) or cluelessness.

You draft Melo on to the Pistons, and he would be a much better Defender than he is now. He isn't a bad man defender, does need to put in more effort at times. But when you talk about defensive identity, the Nuggets only have, "Let players drive in to Camby so he can block them." Most of the team seems to get lost on rotating, so I don't think Karl is doing a good job coaching real defense.

You also mentioned team basketball. It is a bit hard to play team basketball when the coach doesn't believe in team basketball. He basically gave AI the keys to the offense, told him to shoot more, pass less, and there is little player and ball movement. If Melo was drafted to a real system, he might be seen as the top scorer in the league (not just top 5). You do realize, this season, while as the second option, with AC on his side of the floor (who the defense could ignore) and being in an offense that makes it hard to score, he still scored 25.7 points on 49% shooting? Not many wings in the NBA could do that.

And the person saying not drafting Melo was avoiding a mistake, is a total joke.

I agree, the system is flawed in Denver and it's full of so-so defenders.

Doesn't sound quite so bad when you pretend they chose Prince over Melo (though there is not a GM in the league that would trade Melo for two Princes) but actually they chose Darko over Melo, and they could of course have both Melo and Prince.

it's hard keeping track of all these melo to detroit threads. I'll say it again though, if Michael Curry is coaching the pistons and tutoring melo on defense I think it's a pretty worth while gamble for the pistons.

easy now. IF Lebron can go into an unstoppable beast against Tayshaun he can definitely do it against Carmelo, and the same thing goes for Paul Pierce. That's not even mentioning what the pistons would have to give up.

melo has matched up with lebron every time the two have played since both came into the league. lebron's stats against the nuggets are pretty mediocre in comparison to the rest of the league...

I've seen melo do capable jobs of guarding guys like t-mac. but if you've noticed...coach karl forces our guys to switch on pick-and-rolls. opposing teams simply run a pick-and-roll for their star perimeter scorer and k-mart/camby end up matching up with said star scorer on the perimeter. it's a nightmare...trust me.

in 2 games verse the nuggets this year...

lebron: 28.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.5 apg, 51.3% FG, 33 MPG

(his minutes per game in those contests were low because they were blowout nugget wins)

and just for fun...here's melo's stats vs the cavs this year:

24.5 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, 52.8% FG, 32 MPG

I recall melo holding turkoglu to 3-16 FG in the last match-up.
