I personally hope we could pull off a Blount/Banks/2 for Brand/7 but that seems unlikely. The advantage of doing it now is of course that we have Brand now.

This is all assuming that Brand is the better player now (its a given) and more importantly would be a better player than beasley in 2010 when wade's contract is up(there is a real possibility that wont be the case). If you think getting brand equates to what the celtics did this year, and the heat can go from the basement to an nba championship, i dont see the correlation. For one thing while brand is a good player when healthy he is not kevin garnett nor is he ever going to be. I thought our whole philosophy was to set up a team that is going to be a consistent title contender for wade's prime years. You think having a 30 year old power forward coming off an injury, and a 31 year old small forward whose game is based on athleticism is the way to go?

take Beasley. Sign Boozer or Brand in FA next year. If they don't think thats the way to go there has to be some PGs or Cs that are do-able.

Take these into account:
-Wade is turning 27 this season, the same age Michael Jordan won the first of his 6 NBA titles.
-Derrick Rose and Michael Beasley are both going to be superstars. But for Rose it will take a few years, especially considering he can't shoot. And Beasley will need to grow into a position, either SF or PF. His defense is also very suspect.
-But other teams want these guys badly. Even more badly than the Heat do. Wade and Rose in the backcourt would have a good chance of not working, since they are both essentially ball hogs that can't shoot very well. Beasley would be a monster on offense, but his defense and playing out of position (potentially for his whole career) is a pretty big drawback.
-And don't forget about who is in charge- Pat Riley. Remember what he said after the Shaq-Marion trade? He said he wanted to rebuild extremely quickly---quicker than last time.

Between Marion and the 2nd pick, Miami could potentially rebuild this summer. Right now. And start competing next season. That's an All Star and a future superstar we are trading. In exchange we should get a LOT. Pat Riley will make sure we get what we deserve. I am excited. A bit nervous. But excited. You should be too. Trust Riley.

And for the record, I think and have thought since I first started paying attention to the draft that despite all the hype about Rose and how much Wade loves Mayo, Jerryd Bayless and Wade would be a LETHAL combo in the backcourt. Their skills complement each other perfectly. Bayless can shoot lights out and would be ideal for Miami. So when it's all said and done, I hope we end up with the 4th or 5th pick to take this guy. Blount, Banks and the 2 to Memphis, Marion, Cook and the 5 o LAC, Miller and Brand and the 7 (Bayless) to Miami. Resign Zo. Split MLE between a backup C and a backup PG.
Bayless - FA
Wade
Miller - Wright
Haslem
Brand - Mourning - FA
GREAT success.

KG and Shaq deals don't come up often. You could sit by and wait for years for those type of deals to become available. At the same time how many teams spend years in the lottery? There are very few sure things in the NBA. If we can get Mayo and Brand we set ourselves up nicely for the present and future. If we can get Blount+Banks+2 for Brand+7 we can grab a guard at 7 and go into 2009 with 15 mil in cap space if we let Marion go. Everything's a gamble. We could sit tight pick up Beasley and he could flop.

Yeah but Elton Brand does not have to be Kevin Garnett. The Celtics made moves last offseason to get KG (Their best player) and Allen (3rd star), while they already had their 2nd best player Paul Pierce on the roster. In our case, we already have our super star on our roster in D-Wade and Brand would be coming in as his sidekick. Therefore, if your gonna compare us to the Celtics, compare Brand to Pierce (remember, Pierce's stock has never been higher and Brand's never lower), and that still is a close call. Granted, with a Wade-Marion-Brand lineup we would need some serious 3-point shooting out of the PG position, but we would be close.

Or Beasley could turn out to be a perennial all star power forward, in which case we screwed ourselves. Look i understand going for the homerun trade but what is being reported doesn't seem like it sets us up much higher than a nice #5 or #6 seed team next year. :( If Mayo goes 2, then Beasley goes 3 in which case i dont see bayless passing seattle at 4 so we dont get him either :(

I guess it depends on your point of view, I'd be geeked with Brand and think that is going to be better than a 5 or 6 seed team

im down for either drafting and keeping beasley or trading for brand as long as we get the 7th pick back and/or marion is still here..anything other than that is not value

even though mayo is good and think hes an option, beasley or brand is more appealing...

i could see riles wanting mayo IF he thinks boozer will come to MIa but what if boozer resigns w/ utah or doesnt exert his option? We are screwed...take the sure thing in beasley or trade for brand/boozer

Yeah I kind of like that idea, of Riley going all out tomorrow, with crazy trades.

Riley is one of the the few guys that has a certain moxy, to do trades, half the teams always try to play it safe.

If he plays it safe, I won't be mad, but he might just go all out for a total revamp.

I made this analogy to my buddy yesterday - Riles idea of revamping is like the christening scene in the godfather - multiple hits all at one time... going back to the night he traded for Hardaway, Walt Williams, Ty Corbin, Gatling, etc, etc, and the 12 player 4 team deal to get Toine & J-Will...

From a Grizzlies beat writer who seems to have sources close to the team:
I think a Beasley deal of some sort is going to go down tomorrow night, though Grizzlies insiders I talked to at today’s workout didn’t think the Grizzlies would end up getting him.

http://www.memphisflyer.com/grizblog.html

Hopefully that means they're being outbid for #2 with no hope of competing bid-wise.

If you combine this with the "Heat will draft Mayo and trade him" report, seems like it could very well be Brand on his way to Miami -- after all, the one thing the Grizz can't compete with bid-wise is a 20/10 big man who Riley covets.

Of course, these reports probably aren't worth jack anyway, so whatever.

BTW - I've been disappointed at the Heat beat writers for not working *their* sources on all this crap. All they've conjured up in the days leading up to the draft is "what about trading for Marbury?" WTF?

I was listening to ESPN and someone from the Miami Herald said he would be very surprised if the Heat didn't draft Beasley or traded him. He believes it is just smoke screen by Riley to just see if any deals being offered to him are enticing enough. Of course he said that anything can happen in this league and you can never tell with Riley.

^^^ I saw it.

Unless we get Elton Brand back or someone better, I will be pissed if we pass on Beasley.

I'm not sure what thread this should go in, but what about this trade, since Memphis is trying to dump Cardinal and is considering that awful Lee for #5 and Cardinal deal...

Miami trades:
Shawn Marion, 2nd round pick

Memphis trades:
#5 pick, Brian Cardinal, Jason Collins, Hakim Warrick

Mayo or Bayless could still be there at 5.

Mayo or Bayless
Wade
Beasley
Haslem

i love Jeff Van Gundy i always agree with him...he says Beasley better be the pick and that hes a future HOF(wow), he also said teams overanalyze prospects..they should focus on their games and not so much on the other stuff.

Throw in Haslem + Cook for Mike Miller too ...

PG - Mayo or Bayless
SG - Wade
SF - M Miller
PF - Beasley
C - MLE

No way Memphis does it though IMO.
