Im guessing Jason Williams, Ricky Davis, Earl Barron, and all those D-Leaguers are gone...i think Ricky Davis is not as bad as people think though.

Is this our depth chart right now?

PG Marcus Banks / Mario Chalmers
SG Dwyane Wade / Daequan Cook
SF Shawn Marion / Dorrel Wright
PF Michael Beasley / Udonis Haslem
C Mark Blount / Alonzo Mourning

Looks pretty good.....we got the hard part done with the trio we put together in Wade/Beasley/Marion ..now its time to get the Perkins and the Poseys

Without a stud double double center in our starting line up UD becomes exposed and expendable. The one team i wouldnt trade him to is Orlando. Thats just asking for trouble.

What the hell, may as well put this in the official Haslem trade thread too...

BlaZeN27 wrote:I love Haslem but what do you guys think about trading him to Indiana for Jeff Foster? Foster's contract is one year shorter then UD's (so it's an expiring, and its about the same size as Haslem's). That fills the center void for this year, and also allows us to use the full MLE this year and still sign a max player in 09. We could even re-sign Foster after this season.

LOVE this idea. Foster is one of the best defensive and rebounding centers in the league ... shot-blocking aside. He can take either frontcourt assigment straight-up (C or PF), thus freeing Beasley from typical rookie foul trouble and allowing him to focus on boards and running the court. Foster, like Haslem, exemplifies the hustle and team-first commitment we need around Wade/Beasley.

Most importantly, as stated above, Foster expires in 12 months. Giving us a total of $25 million in cap room 12 months from now, or allowing us to use the full MLE right now and still retain $19 million in cap room.

So it solves needs, makes us better, and frees us up to use the MLE or add two max-type guys in 12 months.

No idea if Indiana would do it. But I bet we could find a 3rd team to give them what they'd want (expiring, plus young prospect).

Indy has no motivation to trade Foster for Haslem -- they have Troy Murphy at the 4 already

Well they also have Dr. Hibbert and Nesterovic at the 5. Its not like Troy Murphy is a keeper, or anything, he is a decent PF on an outrageous contract. Problem would be Indy taking on the extra year of Haslem's deal, as they are going for cap room next year as well.

I dont think Haslem will be traded. He's a solid player, but his trade value isnt high. Power forward isn't too difficult of a position to fill, and there aren't many teams with too many centres & looking to trade them.

Do you think there's a team in the league who would give an expiring plus either a pick or prospect for Haslem? I'd say that's a near certainty. So ...

Heat Get
- J Foster

Pacers Get
- Expiring and pick or prospect to rebuild

3rd Team Gets
- Haslem

Plus, I think you're forgetting ... 1) Murphy plays a significant numbers of minutes at center in his career, though less this past season because J O'Neal and J Foster both played there and 2) they just traded for Rasho Nesterovic, who I assume would also spend his time at C. What they *don't* have is an actual PF who can guard other PFs. Especially with Diogu just traded.

I dol think you're right to an extent, that the Pacers may not be interested in Haslem, but there are reasons to believe he would fit. And even if not, a 3rd team would gladly take him and give the Pacers what they'd want for Foster.

EDIT: Forgot they also have Hibbert at center. So Nesterovic, Hibbert, Murphy, and Foster who are all either centers or play a significant amount of time there. But no young, rough-and-tumble PF to speak of. Still, finding a 3rd team would be an easier deal and make more sense to Indiana IMO.

I don't get Indy's mindset anyway, they may do it, who knows

If I were them I'd have kept Bayless last night and been happy he slid to me

their lineup is seemingly

TJ Ford/Jarett Jack
Mike Dunleavy/Brandon Rush/Marquis Daniels
Danny Granger/Kareem Rush
Troy Murphy/Rasho
Foster/Hibbert

dont think Hslem for Foster is too enticing for them, but who knows

They need to figure out what they are gonna do with Dunleavy. He is way too slow to play SG, but they already have Granger at SF. Lucky for them, Dunleavy had a nice year this past year and probably has some trade value, they could turn him into expirings/young players most probably. He, Murphy, and Tinsley are their three bad contracts, and they should have significant cap space next summer with Foster, Daniels, and Rasho expiring. Maybe use that cap room next summer to sign themselves a Boozer if they can and they look good with Ford-Rush-Granger-Boozer-Hibbert

Back to the topic of Haslem for a minute, I really think Miami has to decide what position they want to play Beasley at. I think he is more of a natural fit at PF, but I think the Heat hope Beasley can fit in at SF, allowing them to keep Haslem at PF. This would allow them to move Marion for a PG/C, or let him expire and fill out the team in FA. If Wright can develop into a solid rotation player, they can split all the F minutes between Wright-Beasley-Haslem with Beasley moving between the 3 and 4 throughout the game (similar to the Wade-EJ-Rafer guard rotation of '04).

I don't think any team is set at PF with Troy Murphy and Rasho playing there. Neither can defend PFs and both have been more effective at center offesnively.

Still, you're leaving out the easier scenario of a 3rd team including an expiring and a pick to get their hands on Haslem.

There's gotta be at least five teams in the league (probably more) who would do so, and I think Indiana would be thrilled to trade Foster, who they will let leave soon anyway, for such a package.

I dunno, I put it to the Pacers board so well see what they say.

rgw wrote:I think it is more likely that we trade Marion, if we trade. I kinda get the feeling that we'll just get Diop with the MLE and call it an off-season. Let Marion go off the books in 09 and sign Brand or Boozer.

Marion has market value---if he goes with an extended contract. Haslem is not a PF upgrade to most teams and is too high priced for a backup-which means he may fit in a package deal in some situations but is not gonna get you squat in terms of a starting C. Everyone assumes they get Diop with some MLE...and further assumes he's really an answer.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Miami has some edge keeping Marion....much less toward getting Boozer or Brand, and Beasley + Marion is probably a better combo anyhow. Beasley's game is PF..not SF. Marion is a perfect match as he's a physical SF. Center? Be patient kids....you SUCKED last year so it will take a little time to fix everything.

For what it's worth...Miami can get Patrick O'Bryant cheap . He can soon be better than Diop and you are not bidding against a dozen teams for him. O'Bryant will be looking for the chance he never got--to play. He is not a "bust" he's a victim of the Warriors not being rational. Haslem-Zo can play some C as POB gets tuned up. In a couple years the Heat have a nice front court.

Riley mentioned he saw Beasley at the 4 spot but I still think we deal Marion rather then Haslem.

At this point can Marion even play SF full time? Hes been a full time PF for years and his numbers and athletic ability are on the decline. Hes still a very good player but one who has no future here because we have more pressing needs

I think Riley should 1st try to extend Marion's contract and if nothing happens, which is the likely scenario considering their asking a lot) trade Marion for a need position that doesn't hurt the cap space in 2010 instead of trading Haslem.

A bunch of us in Milwaukee are waiting/hoping we can acquire Haslem for Mo Williams. About 30% of our board would do the deal. Maybe 30% don't want to do that deal at all. The remaining 40% want something else of minor value in addition to Haslem. Come over and visit if you want.

Contract goes to long, Ends in 2012 @ 8.5 million a year. Unless we can send them Banks, then i don't see a deal. 13.5 million Between Banks/Williams would be to much. Any deal with a pg, Banks has to be included because of Chalmers, the guy is a stud and will be a great backup PG.

Pacers would not be thrilled to trade Foster. He is a fan favorite and a very hard worker. We won't just let him walk unless another team offers him an insane deal. Where did you get the idea that we don't like him from?
