I think Hairston is going to about as good a value as you can get with that late of a pick.
I follow the ducks somewhat (though I went to their rival school) and he was one guy that always rose to the occassion against top competition, and his skillset transfers best to the NBA. ie Oregon vs Florida in the tourney year before last he was the only oregon player who could do anything against their NBA front line. Crafty, heady player who fits seamlessly into a veteran team like the spurs.

Yeah I really like getting Hairston... plus that cheese and extra future 2nd rounder :)

I don't know much about him, know he's athletic, haven't seen him... thanks for the info ph1sh55, sounds very nice

didn't want to make a new thread on your board, but how about this trade suggestion?

Spurs get:
Marcus Camby
Andres Nocioni

Bulls get:
Kurt Thomas (S&T)
Michael Finley
Spurs 1st

Nuggets get:
Kirk Hinrich

Bulls then waive Kurt Thomas, so he can rejoin the Spurs or something and play for a championship contending team.

lineups:
Spurs:
C - Camby
PF - Duncan
SF - Bowen
SG - Ginobili
PG - Parker

Bulls:
C - Noah
PF - Gooden
SF - Deng
SG - Finley
PG - Rose

Nuggets:
C - Nene
PF - Kenyon
SF - Melo
SG - Iverson
PG - Hinrich

I would be all over it but we don't have a first round pick next year... and it seems unfair to the Bulls and the Nuggets.

not really.

i got the trade idea off the Bulls board, and they would seem to do it.

im sure many Nuggets would do it as well.

we're tired of Camby, and getting Hinrich who is the perfect fit to playing next to AI and Melo.

I do that in an instant as well, but why would the Bulls and Nuggets do it? Thomas is good, but old..and FInley is just terrible..

Now that I've had a day for the draft to sink into my mind I shall attempt level headed comment.

George Hill: The more I read about this guy the more intrigued I become. I refuse to be excited because there is no way he eats into Parker's minutes in the playoffs. He sounds like a really nice guy and he has a quality all round game. Pop commented that he expected him to make this team better right off the bat. I've never heard Pop say that before. So at least we have some youth to look foward to actually seeing next season. If this pick works out safely we actually have some depth at point. Jacque Vaughn is an excellent third string player.

Malik Hairston : I felt a lot better about things when we traded Dragic for Hairston. Hairston should prove to be a solid all round g/f for the Spurs who at the very least can apply some pressure to the older SA wings. RC even stated that he believes Hairston has a legitimate shot at eating into some minutes. Hairston was a guy I was keeping an eye on because of his raw talent and his bulk for a guard. Definitely could surprise because his game doesnt have many holes in it. I want this guy to be on the 15 man roster at the very least.

James Gist: I'll admit that I wasn't too high on this guy before the draft but he's a worthwhile project at 57. He's made noticeable improvements every season he's played at Maryland and could become a nice option for the Spurs if this continues. I'd like to see the Spurs sign him to the Toros without beginning his rookie contract, although that seems highly unlikely.

Mobile FA big men w/ some form of NBA experience...

- Diop (don't think we'll be getting him for a lot of the MLE, though, at least part of it will go to a wing-man)
- Kwame
- Skinner
- Dwayne Jones
- Theo Ratliff (old, yup, but can still go pretty well as shown with Detroit, and early in the year with Minnesota)
- Ronny Turiaf (RFA, but think he is a possibility depending how things go with other Laker moves)
- DJ Mbenga
- Earl Barron (not the biggest mass-wise, but real mobile for a near 7-footer, can make the mid-range shot nicely, and finish)
- Shavlik Randolph (RFA; scrappy, smart, relatively proven younger player, has had 1 or 2 significant injuries; have always liked what he's done when I've seen him play)
- Malik Allen (not a true shot alterer like others, or much of a rebounder, but he is a solid positional defender, tough guy, and has a legit mid-range game)
- Eduardo Najera

I think we'll go for one of the top 6 before we'd look at the others.

I was very surprised we didn't. I mean, we have Mahinmi, but still...

From that list, I only see Skinner as a possible target. Maybe Najera as well if they trade Matt Bonner.
Frankly, I don't see us signing any more bigmen. I think the final bigman spot will go back to Robert Horry.

Maggette UFA.

If not Artest, I wouldn't mind getting him. Maggette's also improved his 3PT shot this past season. I don't know how much it's worth, but I've heard he and Dunleavy have had issues at times over defense/plays during their tenure together. I would expect stuff like that to be improved with us, if the aformentioned is notable.

I think we're all setting our expectations too high..a good player signing for the MLE is a stretch most of the time..so my expectations are just to sign some role players, which I think would be enough for our team..

guys like Artest and Maggette, specifically Ron Ron, would just be something unexpected and incredible though..

It wouldn't be a surprise to me either way... a great situation over money, or money over a more legit team. Either route is justified.

The wildcard third scenario, is a S/T into a quality team... just don't know if that happens, though, because of the trade factor.

"Yes, (Sacramento) is where I'm staying," Artest wrote. "But I still think about all my critics. ... (There) will come to a time when I can go where I want, basically. "It's a major turnaround. Everywhere I go, somebody or some fan wants me to play on their team - from San (Antonio) to Boston and even Detroit."

We love you Ron Ron!!!

Anyone open towards trading Matt Bonner and some 2nd rounders for Charlie Villanueva?

I'd love this trade. More potential and a shorter contract, where do I sign?
Charlie V would be a massive risk, a worthwhile one though.

I've warmed up to getting Villanueva... I wouldn't mind getting him, but doubt we have what it takes.
