playing time for armstrong

Post#1 » by drewfogarty » Mon Aug 18, 2008 6:34 pm

what do you predict the playing time for Hilton Armstrong will be this year? from what you guys follow in the offseason, has he made any strides as a player or will his only significant minutes come in the event that either West or Chandler go down with a serious injury (which I hope does not happen).

any feedback would be helpful.

He put up decent numbers in the summer league, but thats not much to go by. Alot of people will tell you that he doesnt have confidence in his play or confidence in his understanding of Byron Scott's expectations of him, so I imagine his minutes will come mainly when West/Chandler get in early foul trouble and junk minutes in blowouts. Other than that i'd expect 3-5 mins a game from Hilton this year unless he "gets it."

Its not that he doesnt have talent, its just that he doesnt understand the game well enough for B Scott to give him minutes.

EDIT: Another factor will be Melvyn Ely's form, he was terrible against the Spurs but earlier in the season had been quite productive. If he finds that early season form of last year then Hilton won't see the court much at all.

He's played 11.4 and 11.3 minutes per game this past season, and I'm hoping he moves into a bigger role and gets his confidence up.

Hilton is supposed to be Chandler's back up but he just hasn't seemed to put it all together as of yet. I'm hoping this, his 3rd season will be a charm for him. Otherwise, like ChrisTheFuturePaul said, he'll only get PT when West/Chandler are in foul trouble or blowout junk minutes. If he doesn't look like he's playing up to par Scott will no doubt grab Ely off the bench. Hilton usually looks so soft and timid out there. I hope he's working on his game and gaining some confidence over this summer.
