Could be a playoff team, but I think they miss out.

To the OP:

I will give you that Kaman is great, especialy defensively. I actually covet him *if only the Jazz had him w/ Booz and Okur nobody would EVER stop us in the playoffs*

But history supports that teams w/ Baron Davis on them, offensively, tend to live and die w/ how Baron Davis does offensively. He puts up lots of points, but absorbs a high percentage of the shots, and is a poor shooter (overall efficiency from the field). You can't argue that. So if Michael Dumb-leavy can figure out how to get everyone other than Davis and Kaman to buy into themselves being defensive specialists only and not expecting shots from the offense...then MAYBE it could work.

But I dont see it happening. Oh, and there's a 40% chance Baron would be hurt a significant amt of games in the tough tough west. Again, history mate....

obinna wrote:Barring injury they should make the playoffs. I think they are better than Denver, GS, and Portland and they could possibly surpass Dallas. Like I said before getting a playmaker like Baron Davis and having the ability to defend and rebound at a high level will do wonders for their team.

ahh ok... I just see Dallas as too experienced... Dirk is far and away better than any player on the Clippers... I can see them being better than GSW especially with Monta out for so long.... I think they are on the same level as Denver though.. Carmelo is an overall better player than Baron and Iverson is on the same level as Baron... So even though the Clippers have a better starting 5, the pure talent of Carmelo and Iverson will keep them in the mix (and its not like Smith, Martin, Nene and Kleiza are exactly scrubs).....

Now we come to Portland... Huge question mark, but you have to give them the benefit of the doubt, considering how WELL Nate McMillin's teams execute... Bayless may not have a huge impact this year, but there is no doubt in my mind that Rudy will have a positive impact... and then there is that Oden guy.... Everyone already knows how good Roy and Aldridge are and Outlaw should get more minutes since Webster is injured (and I personally think Outlaw is better than Webster and every bit as talented as Thornton)... So yeah... I guess agree to disagree :D

I seriously don't know where everyone is getting this notion that Baron Davis is inefficient. He might has poor shot selection but he is not inefficient. Keep in mind that 1/3 of Baron Davis's FGs are 3s and shooting 33% from 3pt land is they same as shooting 50% from inside the arch. With that said Baron Davis is a 48% 2pt shooter and a 33% 3pt shooter. That is not horrible.

Camby is a top 5 interior defender and Kaman is very good interior defender so that at least their interior defense should be top notch. Also Baron Davis gets steals and he will be able to gamble even more on defense with Kaman and Camby behind him.

Barons not there because he loves LA or the Clippers, Barons there cause he wanted the money and his a hometown kid.
Camby, Camby is a has been and he really didnt want to play for the Clippers and he was pissed that he was traded to the Clippers.
Thats all Brah and please dont take my post personal. Its not directed to you or this thread, its directed strictly to the Clippers.

Typical, ignorant opinion of the Clippers. That pretty much sums this post up. The Clippers suck because they're the Clippers. Real original. Like I haven't heard that one before...

Baron's not here because he loves L.A.; he's there because he's a hometown kid. Do you read the stuff you write?

Camby was pissed because Denver traded him for nothing and didn't tell him about it. He learned about the trade from the media--and that's why he's bitter. He's said nothing bad about the Clippers since the day the trade went down.

We'll see how well this overhauled Clippers team fares once the season starts. There's no point in speculating since the starters have never played together (even in pre-season) butI think a lot of people will be shocked how good this team can be--at their team's expense.

The health problem will bug this team for the season.
They are a bust, 38-44, missing the playoffs, but BD won the Oscar.

Mannnnnnnnnnnnn I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings............
You know what Ill take that back, the Clippers are awsome and they are stacked.
They will make it to the playoffs, but they will leave in the first round, I would say 4-1.
Now is that better? GO CLIPPERSSSSSSSSSSSSS

The most shocking thing in this thread is that there is a real Clippers fan. I live in L.A. and I've never seen one. This is fascinating. I feel like I discovered something new.

Yeah, we just don't like associating with ignorant, bandwagon Laker fans. I know all of you aren't like that but I can't tell the difference just by looking at you guys. Better safe than sorry.

You should go to a non-lakers/Clippers game at Staples this year. There are people there, you know?

I've been to Staples for a Clipper home game once, and all it did was make me mad that they would desecrate Staples with all the red Clipper stuff. Seriously, it would make more sense for Clippers to move to Anaheim.

Good for you, but some of us have been Laker fans probably before you were born.
So be proud of your team who ever it maybe, but dont label everone as ignorant or badnwagon riders, cause not everyone fits that department.
Oh and I do go to the Clipper games, only when they're playing the Lakers...

The Clippers have been in the city of Los Angeles for a longer consecutive period than the Lakers. They weren't the ones who ran off to Inglewood - why not move your team out to Torrance while you're at it? :D

You guys are seriously on that piff. Camby is the main reason Denver made the playoffs.

I know you're excited to have Camby, and I guess I would be too if I didn't watch him that much last year.

But he's not the reason Denver made the playoffs, and he most certainly got owned once the Nugs got there.

As far as interior defense, he's great on the help D with his blocks, but he doesn't play post D very well. He doesn't take charges and he doesn't commit hard fouls. Understandably, it seems like he doesn't like contact all that much.

On offense he will hurt you more than help if the coach lets him get away with it. He's gotta have his touches and has a penchant to want to bring the ball up the floor. For a guy as tall as he his, he bricks a lot of layups. He passes pretty well for a big though.

Camby was fun to have in Denver and seems like a pretty good guy, but I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Because it was the Iverson/Crymello defense that made the nuggets awsome right?

Camby next to Kaman is pure gold

I think they're in the race for 8th, but they'll probably have to knock out Dallas or Phoenix. Phoenix could go either direction with the coaching change, but it helps that they added Barnes and Robin Lopez amongst other additions. Dallas may get it going having spent more time with Kidd, so they might start to mesh a little. Then you have Portland who should easily be anywhere in the 6-8 range. Then the returning favorites, the Lakers, Spurs, Hornets, Jazz, and Rockets.

Still I think they have as good or better shot as any other team to steal 8th.

It's gonna be between the Clips, Denver and Portland for the 8th seed.

Why is Portland even guarenteed a playoff spot this year?

They haven't done anything yet, completely overachieved last year and wound up at .500

I don't have anything against them like a lot of posters on here either.

I'll be pulling for them, and I like Roy a lot, I would trade anyone on our roster for him plus picks.

I just don't know they make it this year.

One injury and they're done out West.

I think they make the jump above .500 this season, but you will need 47 or 48 wins for the 8th seed this year and I see them winning maybe 43 to 46.

And yes, I understand they are adding Oden and Rudy, plus the 2 rooks and an extra year's experience.

He's got to have his touches?

What does Camby shoot, like 7 times a game? I guess Anthony Carter is a guy who has to get his as well. Wait till Oden finds out in Portland that it's all about Steve Blake.

It's true.

Of all the people on the team who could complain about not getting the ball, Camby was the one. So Karl typically would run the first play for him so he could shoot his jumper from the top of the key.

It's also why Karl would let him bring the ball up the court sometimes.

But any overly optimistic Clippers fan is welcome to continue with the delusion that he is going to catapault you into defensive eliteness.
