If Jordan had a voice like Mutombo, would he be as popular?

Post#1 » by Point forward » Wed Oct 29, 2008 2:17 pm

If Jordan had a voice like Mutombo, would he be as popular? I had this idea while soaking up a book on rhetorics. So, if Jordan did his stuff with winning six rings and hypnotising a generation of bball fans, but spoke like Cookie Monster and was the least comprehensible guy around, would he still be a GOAT global superstar?

PS There was a similar thread "If Jordan looked like Cassell, would he be as popular" with some good discussion so I hope this thread is not totally garbage...

As popular? No.

I doubt he'd have as many (or any?) commercials, for example.

He would still be considered one of the best American athletes ever, and one of the GOAT in the NBA, but popularity-wise he'd be a little less known throughout the world. Part of having a global presence has to do with your looks, personality, charm, etc...

Jordan's quotes would be like, " it no matter one champ, you luck, all lucky you are, but more is legend".

Hmm.. I could never image Jordan having that kind of low pitched voice with the grumbly cookie monster accent.

He would be considered the goat anyway, and as popular as he is but in other way, i don't think voice changes many things. Other thing is that he would be gay (i have nothing against homosexual people, but looks like people tends to do lots of jokes about this).

Even more popular IMHO, he will have another distinctive (sp?) feature.

For all Mutombo fans:

I have to agree, it would have made him a god and a global icon to a way huger degree. Would he also symbolize everything Mutombo does in terms of charity/Africa, etc.?
