in terms of making a clutch play i'd take James Posey over all of the big names you guys keep listing...

I can't believe how many are leaving Vince Carter off the list. Clutch time is basically the only time he goes full out. He has a loooong string of hitting game winners.

Oh, and for a comparison. This year, EFG% in the clutch:

Roy: .571...looking good.
Bryant: .550...Not too shabby.
Pierce: .550. Also solid.
Pierce: .550...lol, seeing a trend?
Wade: .452. Not amazing, but he's a volume guy in the clutch.
Duncan: .579...very good indeed.

And then at whole other levels, you've got

Carter: .762
James: .823

James gets the pub, as do all the guys lower down on the list, but somehow Carter keeps getting overlooked. He's gone from being a guy with a ton of hype to a guy who is consistently and significantly underrated.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Roy IMO...

How does that stat work? Cleveland has blown out like every team so I think the LeBron stat can be inflated..

Different greats have different approaches to crunch time.

Ultimately, the best clutch players are superstars who
a) understand their strengths and
b) who are unafraid to make mistakes and/or crave the winning glory

The following is a list of players who I believe to be the most clutch, and the reasons why, (based on BASKETBALL ABILITY, as well as MOTIVATION which is admittedly my own interpretation)

Kobe Bryant: Is so refined and super-skilled a baller, who attacks relentlessly in crunch time. He desperately craves the glory; although I do get the feeling he has a fear of failure that can affect him from time to time.

Steve Nash: Very heady player who brings out the best in himself and his team in big moments, and who personally becomes pretty fearless in the clutch. With creeping age however, he seems to have lost some confidence in his ability to make any play at any time, and I've seen him appear frustrated during some crucial moments.

Lebron: Recognizes his most unstoppable option is taking the ball to the hole to make a play. He hasn't made enough big mistakes to be afraid to make them, and he loves the spotlight. However, he must continue to improve his FT%.

Wade: The guy just attacks in big moments more fearlessly than any of these guys. He's playing for himself out there, and is unaffected by concerns of letting his team or fans down. If he could hit a big 3, and was slightly more consistent a FT guy, I'd be hard pressed to find a more clutch specimen.

Ginobli: Falls into the DWade category in terms of attitude, plus he's got the 3 ball. However, he isn't a super-duper star at the highest echelon, and is (only somewhat) limited in what he can do in the final minutes.

Duncan: Is so damn sensible and dedicated to winning that he knows it's his duty to make big plays in every facet of the game in big minutes. He gets anxious in those moments a bit, you can see it, but that motivates him. As a big, however, and with his FT shooting, there are some limits to what he can do in the final seconds of a game. (Though he's hit his fair share of huge shots)

Paul Pierce: This guy is driven by the glory big time, and doesn't appear to be too afraid to make mistakes either. He's a crafty and resourceful guy, and is ultimately as clutch as any one mentioned above. Though he does have the benefit, in more recent years, of not drawing constant double and triple teams.

Brandon Roy: Another guy who just seems to not care what people will think of him after the game; he is completely self-motivated, and will do anything in the big moments to win. His all-around game makes him as multi-dimensional a threat as any other clutch star, but he does not have any unstoppable moves in his arsenal.

Honorable mention also goes to:

Ray Allen (from Mil, to Sea and even now with the C's)
Deron Williams
Ben Gordon (non super-star clutch kid)
James Posey (role-player clutch, Horry incarnate)
Jason Terry (see Ben Gordon)
Stephen Jackson (has an "F" the world swagger)
Baron Davis (Plays for himself, and for the fun - fearless)
Gilbert Arenas (Injured, but damn this guy CRAVES the glory)

* Some guys like McGrady, Dirk, Carmello (and many others), have had huge clutch moments, big series etc. but appear to also get frazzled and lose it, making them temperamentally clutch.

I hate the Spurs, but Ginobili is being really overlooked by a lot of people here.

Really, again, I am no Kobe Bryant lover, but that game (for the few of us who watched it, it was quite possibly the most beautiful game of offensive basketball EVER played or that ever will be played) just said so, so, so, so much.

When it came down to it in the biggest possible moment, playing for their country with their legacies all on the line, who took over the game?

LeBron was the best player in that game, hands down. Wade was unconscious.
But in the clutch, Kobe took that team on his shoulders.

Thus, regardless of stats or other outside analysis, Kobe IS the most clutch player in the game today.

Kobe was only clutch in the olympics cause he hada big men to play down low. What did he do till he got Gasol ? Absolutely nothing. So dont post these pointelss threads. Only reason he took over, cause u wont double him cause u have about 4 other allstars.

We are talking strictly about clutchness here, not whether Kobe can carry a team without a good big man.

Brandon Roy is really really clutch.

Kobe and LeBron always have to be taken into that list.

Also Tim Duncan, you can always give him the ball, you know he is making the best possible out of it.
