OT: Love says Quantum of Solace might be best Bond film

Post#1 » by big3_8_19_21 » Sun Dec 7, 2008 12:43 am

Also, as a movie watcher, I go out. I just saw Quantum of Solace. Thumbs up. I thought it was better than Casino Royale. My uncle has seen the movie three times already, but his daughter, Isabella, my niece has made him watch Peter Pan and Tinkerbell about 15 times. With kids, it's Sesame Street or Disney.

But back to Bond. I'm a Bond guy. And I think Daniel Craig is great as Bond. Whether he's the best Bond is a tough call. I like Sean Connery, and Roger Moore may have been the best because he was in so many, but I think Quantum of Solace may be the best Bond ever.

oooh....that's just not right. As much as I like Kevin Love...he clearly doesn't know what he's talking about here. He's the only person I've ever heard or read say that Quantum of Solace was better than Casino Royale and there's good reason for that.

Haven't seen it yet but I heard it was bad. I wasn't a huge fan of Casino Royale either even though I did like the movie. They got a great Bond but they better get their crap together and give him a fitting movie.

Everyone knows that "From Russia with Love" is the best.

I haven't seen solace yet, but I was very impressed with Daniel Craig in Casino Royale. He has that Sean Connery quality where you can believe he has the psyche to kill people. I also liked his mortality, which heightened the thrills.

Brosnan, Dalton and especially Roger Moore completely fail to be convincing at human beings capable of being James Bond.

I consider myself to be a big movie critic/buff and I think that Quantum of Solace is much better then the reviews are letting on. To be honest, I wasn't nearly as impressed with Casino Royale as the reviews made it sound like it was one of the best Bond films in a long time. Quantum of Solace isn't a great film, but it does everything i'd edxpect out of a Bond film and the action is top notch.

I'm looking forward to watching Quantum. Since we have the baby the movie scene and most other aspects of the social life are completely changed. I thought Casino Royale was fantastic. I would put it up there with From Russia With Love, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice in the Bond lexicon. You can't really compare movies of different eras, but I really thought Casino Royale might have been the best.

I've heard a wide range of reviews on Quantum so I hope I like it. The one thing I like with the reboot is the invisible cars and other crap is gone.

Quantum Solace was a bland film. Craig plays a fine Bond but the storyline was mundane. No memorable gadgets, cars, Bond girls, villains, etc.

How can you rip on Roger Moore era Bond?

Moore was a great Bond, especially for the 70s-80s. The Man With the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me and over-the-top campiness of Moonraker - those are some great films. Jaws is one of the most memorable Bond villains. The Lotus Espirit subcar is still cooler than any Bond car since the '64 Aston. The only Moore Bond film I don't like is Live or Let Die but even that had the great theme song by Wings.

i hated the bond movie and thought Craig was not very convincing. He was built, but he was still skinny. He is built in the same way Brewer is...Obviously he's in great shape, but he can't convince me that he could whoop some ass he is just too small. Plus the stupid ending was bad. how can he just leave the main bad guy and let him die. That is the classic thing where the main bad guy leaves the superhero to die and the superhero escapes. But this time it was reversed and the bad guy was not even good enough to get away!? BOOOO

This is what I liked too. Sure, everyone loves a laser aimed at a crotch, but isn't about time someone actually just poisoned James Bond?

I also liked the scene in the stairwell, and the fact you see an injured James Bond after the fight. The suave Roger Moore looked like a cartoon to me.

The problem with QoS was the editing. The story was disjointed, and the action scenes looked like they were pieced together by an 8 year old with a bad case of ADHD. It's as bad as the Bourne films. Remember when you used to be able to tell what was going on during a movie fight?

Casino Royale was the best Bond film since Connery, though.

There were a few horrendous lines in QoS as well. I can't recall them off the top of my head, but I distinctly remember cringing at several points. The story line was muddled, the Bond girls were unremarkable and really the whole movie is left unresolved. They supposedly "got" whatever information from this guy that really isn't explained all that well and what they do with it is not even addressed. Not even the fighting was cool, and usually that should be the VERY least of a Bond film.

I'll have to see this new one, but I didn't like Casino Royale much. Their high stakes poker plot wasn't doing much for me except making me wish I had a remote control to fast forward.

Best and worst Bond movies were both Pierce Brosnan imo, best is Goldeneye and worst is Tomorrow Never Dies, which might actually be one of the worst movies of the modern era. But Goldeneye had a really good story and didn't have a lot of cheesy gadgets and corny grab-ass dialogue like most Bond movies. Plus it spawned Goldeneye for N64, maybe the greatest game ever.

The older Bond movies haven't aged well and are too cheesy. But my favorite was Goldfinger, though Oddjob was a lame villain. Razor sharp hats are stupid weapons. Whats next, poison stink socks?

I do like what they've done with Bond with Daniel Craig. The suave, womanizing, gadgety Bond was just not realistic - too cartoony as shrink said. Quantum wasn't bad but Casino Royale was better, IMO. The biggest problem for me with QOS was the villian was just lame.

I've thought the writing for SNL has been pretty weak lately, but I got a couple laughs out of their Casino Royale send-up.

dunkonu21 and big3_8_19_21, please edit your post out of consideration for those who haven't seen the movie.

I'll agree, the Bond girls did not make you lust for them the way you did in Casino Royale. She was attractive no doubt, but you never let your imagination run wild with her.

And yes deeney0, it was like the same camera and editing crew from the 2nd Bourne film did the fight scenes for this Bond film.

QoS was 6/10 where I thought CR was 8.5-9/10.

I just lost all respect for Kevin Love. Who is this bum? Quantum sucked, hardcore. We need to trade the guy for someone who can evaluate movies correctly. If he can't even give a good, honest review of a movie than how can we ever expect him to be a quality member of the rotation? Maybe Love is to blame for all our problems, not Wittman?

My fondest childhood memories were of playing Goldeneye on the N64. Get 8 people together, pop that game in, and you have fun for hours, sometimes days!
