I'm under the assumption that Mourning can take basically all of the Lakers' backup C minutes. That's about 14 mpg. I think he still has that left in him and I've always wanted him to be a Laker. Also the 5 is a very easy position to learn and the man has a very high BBall IQ.
How many minutes does that leave? Probably about 12mpg behind Gasol. I think Powell can cover that.
You still need to go get yourself another PF/C just in case but you've basically covered the majority of your problems. Keep in mind this depth is necessary mostly for the regular season and early post-season. In the Celtic series I want our starters gunning for maximum minutes.
As for Odom-Battier, I worry about that deal. It could seriously bite us in the ass in the playoffs. I'd rather pursue Tayshaun or Marion for that reason.
In my opinion, Tayshaun maybe, Marion, no. Odom is a very valuable player to keep around. Especially if he might be willing to take a pay cut to stay past this season, which I think he will. We must not misuse the trade value he has.

Say if Houton beings to tank or this Tracy McGrady thing blows up in their faces, do we have a shot at making a cheaper more reasonable package for Shane Battier, something to the effect of Farmar+Mihm+filler?
I've looked through contracts and while Sun Yue could be added he makes hardly anything so even Yue+Farmar+Mihm (also gives Houston the front court depth it wants plus a player who can pass well) is about 1.3m short of making the deal. In our previous deal to acquire Gasol we added in McKie. Do we have any player of that sort left to make a deal with?
Ira Newble?
DJ Mbenga?

The big thing w/ the Rockets is they are in the same conference and are not got let Battier go here IMO. It would be have to be a case of Odom for say Scola and Battier but their is no way they'd trade Battier for some bench players. And even trading Odom would be risky for us, the Rockets come playoff time are going to be tough.
When healthy the Rockets are the second toughest on paper but the chemistry factor and the personality factor, T Mac and his injury that they told him to play through and Ron Artest's mindset that is aimless at times, keep them from beating the Lakeshow.
As far as Prince goes I think the Pistons would have to tank bad for Dumars to eat crow and say the Iverson move never paid off and now w/ Sheed and AI going into free agency that they are willing to let Prince go and take on another salary dump in Odom.
Their is not like their are a ton of free agents next year. Boozer says he will opt out, Kobe is unlikely to leave, then their is the AI's, J Kidd, M Bibby, A Miller, Big Z w/ a player opt, Turkoleau the same but hardly a bumper class to pick from.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
Farmar's not exactly a barn-burner value to be had in a trade...
Chicago with Nocioni-Radmanovic is a possibility. No doubt they'd like to save cash and Nocioni has had an awful year in that system(you hope it's a system-related problem). I'd much raterh have Nocioni than Radmanovic based on their styles of play however.
Seems like the PG issue is a bit easier for the Lakers to solve this year than the SF one which is just about impossible at this point.

I'd take Nocioni over Radman any day of the week.

there should be a way to package Farmar and Odom and get a lesser offensive better D pg and a better fit at the 3.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
At this point the best alternative still seems to be a Shawn Marion addition since he's the only guy you can get for Odom that can still play minutes at PF without missing a beat over what Odom provided.
It would also give Josh Powell some more minutes which is a plus.
The only detriment is that it forces Farmar, Fisher, Kobe, and Vujajic to do more heavy lifting as far as facilitating since Marion cannot do that while Odom could off the bench at PF. Then again they really have never worked effectively together so it's almost moot. Knowing that Marion has only taken 28 3 pointers this year does assure me somewhat that it's alright if he were to play the SF spot. Defensively he' a major upgrade over anything we have save for Ariza.
Miles I know has always been a big fan of the move save for the part that Marion can't really penetrate but that's alright at least he won't be left for toast every second of the day and we'll be able to rebound. It will do one thing however in that the Celtics won't dare put Ray Allen on Marion. Marion will simply either back him down and turn around to shoot or will jump over him on a lob. The move would no matter what take Pierce away from Kobe for the major part of the game.
Tony Allen vs. Marion? Bad idea for Boston. A major part of their success was the fact that they had a rebounding edge against us. It will be reversed completely with Marion around at SF.

So another vote for the oft mentioned Odom/Farmar+filler for Heinrich/Noc swap. I'd kill for Heinrich on this team. Noc is not a bad pick up either.

haha yeah I guess.... but i don't like Noc. I know he'd play some D but I just don't like his game.
I'd look at a Felton for Farmar/add ons possibly, too.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
That deal just doesn't work well because of the long-term money factor that's all.
Include Radmanovic and it may be considered by management but the problem is that Nocioni cannot slash off the ball for a dunk and provide that true defensive edge. He's aggressive but that may be asking for trouble against Pierce at times. Felton may have trouble fitting in the triangle. Usually the best thing as far as improving a triangle team is to get the simpler players who could easily adjust and understand the off-the ball movement of the offense. Hinrich can do this. Nocioni can. Problem is that while Hinrich would be wonderful, Nocioni can creates an ever large logjam and to be honest may not be the answer at SF.
When I think of the Laker's problems at SF they're huge. The basic problems though have to do with man-to-man defense and ability to cut off the ball (for everyone except Ariza). The next has to do with making plays and making Kobe more of a scorer and less of a facilitator. It's hard to cover all of these needs however.

I think Farmar has more value than Felton in the market right now. I'm also trying to figure out a way to may be pry Afflalo away from Detroit. he should be available for a reasonable deal imo but I can't see anything on our roster that could be of interest to them.
Tyronn Lue could be a quick fix too.

Re: Official Trade Thread (all trade ideas here. No exceptions)
Yes he can, he's seeing very reduced minutes behind Stuckey & Iverson right now and with Rip thrown into the mix, there isn't much time left for him to make the impact he can and he's sort of in a Crittenton like situation. If AI doesn't get re-signed next season, he'd be their primary back up PG though.
He hits 0.400 on 3 pts and plays pretty good defense. He's 6'5", has untapped potential and can run a set offense. Seems like a very decent fit to me.

Nocioni would be nice, he has grit and can get to the free throw line much more than Vlad but, Chicago really needs a big man--and that is why they are looking at getting C Kaman or B Miller.
Maybe their is a 3 way deal out their but as far as Hinrich goes It would have to be a Farmar/Walton for him deal because Hinrich salary situation is not great.

This whole salary situation is bull to be honest. It's like the **** Angels who are going to lose Teixeira because they blasted so much money all over Gary Matthews Jr.'s face.
You're in it because you gave Sasha, Luke and Walton 15.6m a year. That's more than enough to get Marion or Hinrich/Nocioni, Richard Jefferson. **** I'm sick of this crap coming back to bite us in the ass (no pun intended).
I swear if Jerry Buss comes back at the end of the season and says "Durr I wonder why we lost to the Celtics". It's because you didn't pay up you fool. Go into the damn luxury tax if you have to or sell this team to someone with a bigger wallet who can handle the necessary moves to be made.

I'd take RJ, lue, C Vill for Luke, Vlad and Odom.
