Curtis 'My Favorite' Martin calls it quits

Post#1 » by Kid Vicious » Thu Jul 26, 2007 2:11 pm

Not a surprise, but today, he made it official.

A class act all the way. It would have been nice if he could have grabbed a ring. Too bad Testaverde screwed it up for him in 98'.

"Retirement is not an end, but a beginning," the 34-year-old Martin said in a statement. "It is not giving up a position, but more of a passing of the baton. And it's definitely not a crossroad, but a bridge that will further my pursuits within the NFL."

 Curtis Martin is my all time favorite running back. Hes a first ballot HOF'er.

He is? He was good and all, but I don't know if he's first-ballot good. (Or even HoF-worthy to begin with)

A hell of a player and person. I'm going to miss watching Curtis but it was obvious he was done a year ago.

10 consecutive 1000 yard + seasons. 100 overall career TD's. 17000+ total yards. Six consecutive seasons without missing a game which is unreal for a running back.

Hes one of the most durable backs to play the game. Just because he didn't talk a lot and didn't have too much flash on him, people underrate his achievements.

Eh, I guess if aggregates mean something. (And I guess they should in something as violent and ephemeral as a football career.) My only hang-up is that there was never a time where you could honestly say he was one of the three-four best at his position.
