OT: TJ is injured

Post#1 » by Cliff Levingston » Mon Aug 13, 2007 3:16 pm

Per wiretap:

Jets' Jones Injures Leg
13th August, 2007 - 9:22 am

Newsday - The optimism following the first preseason victory was shattered early in yesterday's practice when running back Thomas Jones suffered what appeared to be a lower leg injury, quite possibly to his right calf or Achilles tendon.

Though the injury was not severe enough to keep him from walking off the field under his own power or participating in cardio and strength exercises with other injured players for the remainder of the practice, it is undoubtedly a subject of concern for the Jets, who acquired Jones from the Bears in an off-season trade.

Jones was expected to become a mainstay in the Jets' backfield. In Friday's preseason game, he ran the ball eight times in the first 12 offensive snaps.

Too bad for Thomas. Cliff Levingston wishes him well but it's hard not to be happy with the decision to go with Cedric over TJ at the moment.

The bears sold high on TJ. They were responsible for his value, they didn't get much in return but at least they sold high.

TJ was a first round pick, 7th I believe, and never amounted to it. He was often injured early in his career and the Bears probably got the best two years he'll ever have.

He'll be on his way to declining soon, maybe after this year, and thats IF IF IF the injuries don't get to him.

TJ is injury prone. We were lucky to have one and half productive seasons out of him. We bought low and sold high.

when i hear selling high i think the meaning refers to actualy getting something in return other than a swap of a second round pick.

San Diego traded us their 2nd, 3rd and 5th round picks in '07 and their 3rd rounder in '08 for the pick we received from New York. All in all we've received:

- Dan Bazuin
- Garrett Wolfe
- Kevin Payne
- 2008 3rd round pick

That's a nice return for a guy who would've been #2 on your RB depth chart, has always struggled with injuries and was demanding a big salary increase.

^ They also got our 2nd round pick, which they used on Eric Weddle from Utah who is looking like a star in their defensive backfield so far.
Returned an interception for a TD in the first game.

I thought we just swapped second round picks in exchange for Thomas Jones. I never heard San Diego was involved. Why would they trade all those picks for New Yorks?

^ Unless if you're being sarcastic, we traded what we got from NYJ for the picks from San Diego (Great trade because their GM was drunk).

It was a swap, but it was a pretty big step up. The Bears were originally picking 63rd and got the 37th from the Jets. They then were able to turn around that high 2nd rounder for the picks Cliff Levingston laid out.

SportsWorld just got a phone call and Thomas Jones may have a high ankle sprain which could make him miss a few weeks.

Better news than Achilles. That could be career ending.

We got Garrett Wolfe, Payne, and a third rounder for Thomas Jones. It was highway robbery.

i guess they're saying its not a high ankle sprain but rather a sprained right calf muscle now and is week-to-week
