NBA.COM - Kaman Available Once Again

Post#1 » by boogydown » Tue Feb 10, 2009 2:12 pm

And even though the Clippers have specifically denied it to me, I keep hearing they're still determined to repatriate Chris Kaman, figuring they can go 10-40 just as well without him as with his remaining three years and $33.9 million. NBA.com

You had your shot Kaman, bring on Amare.

It'd be really hard to bring in both unless they want Hughes + Noah for Kaman + filler, and that's assuming the Gooden + Tryus+Thabo + Simmons + 1st is enough to get the job done.

I'd rather probably just keep Noah. Amare will solve our offensive big man needs, and Noah has more defensive upside and seems like his energy and speed would play better with Amare than Kaman would.

I know it's unlikely, but a man can dream.

What if Paxson Danny Ainge's this? He's all like, come here Amare, and then on Draft night, he trades Hughes' expiring and Noah for Kaman and Ricky Davis? And then Mr. Moneybags proclaims he's so happy about it all, he's going to give Gordon 6/60 after all!

Rose/Hinrich/Thabo
Gordon/Hinrich/Thabo
Deng/Thabo/Nocioni
Amare/Nocioni
Kaman/Amare

Eat it, Boston.

If we land Amare I'd much rather have Camby than Kaman.

Agreed. With Amare and Noah, we'd have a front court that would beat the opposition's down the floor 9 times out of 10 which is exactly how Amare likes to play.

I'd rather not have Camby at all unless we got him for Hughes (which obviously isn't happening). He's 34 and highly injury prone. That doesn't give you much window to do anything with him.

Camby contract is an expiring so I would do that for Noc

Kamn has a 15% trade Kicker, meaning the Bulls would have to pay this guy to not play games. This is a total minutes breakdown for Kaman and his career:
1843
1632
2560
2176
2083

(Note 75 games at 30 minutes a night is 2250)

He hasn't been incredibly durable (basically one year he was, the other four he wasn't) and I question how well he gets along with good PF because most of his good numbers came last year without Brand and this year without Randolph.

I think Kaman could be had for expirings and a wing player, which they need depth at, and a pick. Basically, we could probably get him for Gooden, Thabo and next years pick. They don't need any bigs and probably don't want to create a logjam at those spots. Also, the more I think about it, and after reading Aldridge's piece about trades being made for financial reasons (a la Gasol to LAL) I think a lot of these guys can be had for basically nothing as long as you have expirings.

These next few weeks are going to be interesting.

Not sure if you are serious or not, but that is way too much for Kaman.

I am not sure I would do Gooden and Tyrus for him. The man is only good for 14/10, 50-60 games a year.

I know we need a center, badly, but no need to overpay for one.

Sorry -- Supposedly Camby and Eric Gordon are the 2 players the Clippers have absolutely no interest in trading right now.

Even living out here in L.A., I have no idea if Kaman is even healthy. They keep saying he's due back soon...but "soon" keeps getting pushed back. One rumor is that he simply doesn't want to get traded, so he doesn't want to play until after the trade deadline. But the other thought is that he's still not healthy.

How much better do you think he makes us? You can only count on 60 games from him, and he is only good for 14/10/ 2 bks a game. It would be nice to have his size on defense, but he is not a game changer like Amare.

I don't think that Kaman and Amare would compliment each other too well. We want Rose to get his opportunities with the ball. Having two offensive minded big men would really slow down our tempo and dominate the ball.
