Re: Wizards Board Draft Thread II
It's utterly worthless to pay any attention to EG quotes at this time of year. They are pure disinformation.
It's no coincidence that EG sees "five" players he likes. That way, he can maintain the illusion that he's happy with any pick in the top 5. Other teams won't think they can get our pick at a discount.

Re: Wizards Board Draft Thread II
Let me be the first to welcome Hasheem Thabeet to the Washington Wizards. Brendan it was nice knowing ya but we ain't about to pay ya $8 mil plus a season when we have your replacements in waiting in Thabeet & McGee.
At least that's what I get out the Washington Times quotes. I didn't see Thabeet's name mentioned so he's probably the 3rd guy they like after Griffin & Rubio.

That is a pretty alarming but plausible way of looking at it. I'd certainly be happier if EG was singing praises about Thabeet. The idea is to convince other teams that we want him at #3 so that they'll be forced to trade up in order to acquire him themselves.
Overall, I'm really not that concerned. I'm not sure if the "leaks" out of EG's camp mean anything, positive or negative, yet. We can start the forensic parsing of his statements after the draft order has been determined.

Well it may be to early to start parsing his statements but I think we all can safely say that Brandon Jennings, Steph Curry & Jordan Hill will not be in a Wizards uniform next year. I'm pretty sure those three names being leaked means the Wizards have officially eliminated those guys from the conversation.

WE're going to get the 4th or 5th pick I know it. I'm gonna barf if we get Hill or Thabeet.

Just a thought:
Maybe EG is floating Curry's name in an attempt to get New York to trde up to get him. There are a bunch of rumors that New York likes him at #8. Let's say we end up with the 4th pick:
Etan + James + Pecherov + #4 for Hughes + #8?
It saves us about $2M ($4M after luxtax considerations) and gets us a competent combo guard. The guys EG actually likes (Evans? Harden? Lawson?) will probably be around at #8.
New York sacrifices no 2010 cap space and moves up 4 slots in the draft.

I'd be shocked out of my gourd if we get the 4th or 5th and don't deal it. I think a FAR more likely scenario is to deal it and some expiring for a real shooting guard. In other words, "Welcome back to DC, Rip!"

Re: Wizards Board Draft Thread II
At 5 the guy with the most upside is DeRozen but I've got a strong feeling the Wizards are very much against drafting him at 5. The FO seems to believe they are a title contender right now and DeRozen isn't ready to contribute to a good NBA team right now. I also don't see the FO drafting a player like Blair at 5 since he's short. In Blair's case I don't think it's an issue but the FO seems value length when it comes to big men prospects. I don't think they are staying at the pick but if they do I think they'll want to pick Curry. I'm going to root for DeRozen to show them he wants to be great. DeRozen doesn't help this current team become a contender but if he has good character he has a bright future at SG. The way this team is constructed right now they are not going to challenge for a championship. The team is too soft in the middle and the players on the perimeter can't make up for it. If the FO can improve on weaknesses with this pick than do it but drafting for the future could be wise.
Basically this is what I see happening draft night.
1 .Griffin
2. Rubio
3. Thabeet
4. Curry/Jennings
5. Trade

If EG could pull this off, he'd be a genius... especially if Evans is still around. Hughes is the guy he is most often compared to. Hughes would be better than any other option we'd have at 2 and would be able to bridge the time until Evans was ready.
Arenas/Hughes/Evans/Young/Critt as guards in some rotation
Butler/Jamison/DMac/Blatche as forwards in some rotation (with McGee getting some time at the 4)
Haywood/McGee/Songalia
If we could unload DSteve for any value at all, it would be a pretty good offseason leaving us with a pretty healthy balance of young and old, big and small.
In Rizzo we trust

I dunno, it's tough to picture the guy at shooting guard when he can't handle, and can't shoot. I didn't see a hint of either skill watching him this year so it's tough to imagine he develops it. Plus he's wall eyed, he's got that Jarvis Hayes blank stare. TMac is the only walleyed cat I know who can actually shoot. Not sold on Der Der, me.

at least now we EG can grab a true small forward in the draft since no team is willing to trade us a defensive true small forward.
Build your team w/5 shooters using P. Pierce Form deeply bent hips and lower back arch at same time b4 rising into shot. Elbow never pointing to the ground! Good teams have an engine player that shoot volume (2000 full season) at 50 percent.Large Hands

He's 6'6. He only has a future at SG. You say he can't shoot or dribble I disagree. He isn't good at either but he can dribble and run at the same time and he can knock down an open jumpshot. He doesn't have bad fundamentals and he has scoring instincts.
I don't think the Wizards would draft him unless he proved to the FO that he has the work ethic and attitude to become a great player. From his age he can make a lot of strides in the future and Wizards FO is good and can measure DeRozen's hunger to get better.
I studied this kid Evans and I don't like him. He's a talent but his attitude is crappy. I do not want the Wizards to draft Tyreke Evans!

Re: Wizards Board Draft Thread II
Yea I don't want any of these guards at the top of draft except for maybe James Harden. I'd stay away from them at #5 (that includes Stephen Curry, although I admit I'm intrigued). Derozen has no skillset and is more suited to play small forward. Evans has too much Crawford/Hughes in his game, and Henderson is underwhelming. I'd probably send the pick to Milwaukee for Redd, which sucks, but he's probably the youngest good guard we could get. Rip and Vince are going to be 32, while Redd will be 30.
