Re: The What Should We Do With the 5th Pick II: IBJ Edition
Jefferson is a 4, and he's coming off ACL surgery so who knows how long he will be ready, and Love is versatile enough that he could play some 3. Thabeet would give them a legitimate center.
I've been thinking it over, and there's no way we could do a 3 team trade b/c Minnesota and Phoenix would want our pick. This really sucks. Could there be a way of getting Foye and Amare?
Edit: I think I got it.
Phoenix gets the 6th pick (where they would select Jordan Hill. He should still be there), Jamison, Blatche, and Mike James.
Minnesota gets our 5th pick (where they would pick Thabeet), Critter, and OPEC
Washington gets the 18th pick, Randy Foye, Robin Lopez and Amare
Our lineup:
Arenas
McGuire
Butler
Amare
Haywood
Bench: Foye, Young, Songaila, Lopez, McGee, Stevenson, Thomas, 18th pick.
Based on that lineup, we should be looking at a swingman with the 18th pick. Possibly Terrence Williams, Sam Young, or Dajuan Summers.

Re: The What Should We Do With the 5th Pick II: IBJ Edition
^ See I don't think Thabeet would be there at #5. If Minny wants him, they're going to have to go to #2 to guarantee they get him. That means it would actually have to be a 4-way (including Memphis).
*cracks fingers*
It could get tough if Minny won't part with Kevin Love but I'll take a stab at it.
Wizards trade: #5, Blatche, James, and Etan
Wizards receive: Amare
Suns trade: Amare
Suns receive: #5, James, and Mike Miller
Grizzlies trade: #2 and Jaric
Grizzlies receive: #6 and Blatche
Wolves trade: #6 and Mike Miller
Wolves receive: #2, Jaric, and Etan
Washington gets Amare, while Phoenix gets solid value in return. Memphis gets a young PF/C and cap savings to move down 4 spots, while Minny gets Thabeet without moving Love.
Not bad for off the top of my head.

Re: The What Should We Do With the 5th Pick II: IBJ Edition
True, unless Minnesota knows something we don't. Common sense would say they call Memphis about Thabeet, but they keep calling Ernie (if its true), then they must hearing something. Memphis is the only team in the top 5 who would take Thabeet. We're not gonna take him. Ernie didn't work him out and Lee said we should get a good idea of where we're going with the pick based on who worked out for us and who didn't.
I'd really really like to get Foye and Amare. I could care less about any draft picks we get in return (roster is full as it is).
I'm not sure Ernie is savvy enough to pull out a 4 team trade.
Edit: Mike Lee's latest blog post: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/wizardsinsider/
Says that Ernie doesn't want to trade any of the big 3. That could be posturing on his part but who knows.

If the Wiz trade for Amare, then Jamison has to be traded. The Spurs trade Idea (Thomas+Bowen) would be a logical follow up move.

I don't see why we have to trade Jamison under that scenario.
The idea is to add talent to make a run at a title. What's the point of shipping out depth and talent exactly?

Its impossible luxary tax wise to keep Jamison and Amare. Jamison would be on the bench. It doesn't make sense. Better to use Jamison to acquire cap relief and some vets. Thomas and Bowen would be good bench players here.

Thomas would be a good bench player but Bowen is done.

For all we know Mr. Pollin might be willing to pay that amount. At least for this season.

Summers's issue with many teams was explaining his role in Georgetown's second-half collapse last season. The Hoyas went from being a top 20 team to not qualifying for the NCAA tournament, and were a quick exit from the NIT. An upperclassman like Summers should have helped right the ship, but that never happened.
"The biggest problem with him, really, was how the team fell apart and how much was attributable to him and how much was it the jealousy among the players," a Pacific Division scout says. "Physically, he's got the skills. I don't think he's necessarily soft; I think he's just a guy that doesn't go for the ball. He can play two spots."
At least one BIg East assistant whose team played the Hoyas last year thought Summers had a foot out the door most of the season, waiting for the NBA. But that assistant allowed that Summers might show more in tryouts with NBA teams, and that's exactly what's happened. Summers has shown a handle and explosiveness that will make him a good pro, and the history of Georgetown bigs in the NBA doesn't hurt.
"He was very impressive," says a Central Division personnel man whose team worked Summers out. "People tend to forget that we didn't really see what Jeff Green could do until he got out of school."

Kings workout today..Evans takes Curry to the basket with ease.
http://12seconds.tv/channel/sacramentokings/189617
Sac needs bulk to play next to Martin in the backcourt..They're taking Evans
1. Blake
2. Thabeet
3. Harden
4. Evans
5? Trade or do you draft Rubio, Curry, Flynn or Hill?

Now that's a thin slice analysis if I've ever seen one. Malcolm Gladwell would be proud.
Now I don't think the draft will go this way since I feel someone will trade up to get Rubio. But if it did work out this way, I would think the Wizards could get a good price for Rubio, or if the offers aren't good enough simply take him.

If Rubio did fall to us, would that be ideal for Phoenix in a potential Amare trade? Nash is getting up there, and expires after this season. Rubio could spend a year backing up one of the greats, then take over the starting PG spot the next season.
Certainly sounds like it beats taking Hill, or whatever the plan is for them if they trade for the pick without Rubio being there.

I call B.S. on this one.
.What we're hearing is the Wizards are having trouble moving this pick, mainly because as they hoped to package it with Gilbert Arenas or Antawn Jamison to get some salary cap relief. But teams are only asking for Caron Butler. He, however, is as untouchable as it gets.
So for now Washington can only play the poker game and let the rest of the draft know they could spoil someone's plans by choosing one of the following players: James Harden, Jordan Hill, Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry, Jonny Flynn, DeMar DeRozan or Brandon Jennings

I love the thick slice analysis with hardly any input to go off of. Come on dude.Get off your high horse.
Sacramento's serious about Evans.Theyve brought him in twice and he's been beasting in workouts.
OKC could take Rubio, but he's not a great fit with Westbrook..Both HAVE to play with the ball..Neither are effective off the ball. I see the Thunder picking Harden or even Curry over Ricky Rubio.
Word is Thabeet has a promise from Memphis at 2.

if by the grace of the lotto gods we have a chance at rubio we need to lock him up to a multi-year rookie contract. between prove vets like butler/jamison and athletic finishers like mcgee, dom, and young, rubio would find the transition to the NBA game way easier than say playing in memphis.

Man, I hope all these rumors are true.
If Minnesota really wants Thabeet, and Thabeet is on the board at #5, then a trade-down would be a no-brainer. Just give 'em #5 + Etan + Pech for #6 + Miller. Basically, we get Miller for free.
If I'm Minnesota though, I'd wait until Washington actually drafts Thabeet before making that deal. They have to be aware that Thabeet isn't needed in Washington. They'd be foolish to make the trade when they might just be able to draft him outright.
If Rubio falls to #5, we should be able to explore any number of trades. That Phoenix deal would be nice. I'm sure Portland would listed to offers where we get Rudy and cap relief for Rubio. We can probably land the #24 while we're at it.

My goodness, you posted a 12 second video (which was very difficult to see much of anything) and you're touchy about my comment about thin slice analysis? You are the poster child for thin slice analysis. Embrace that. I realize that Evans has gone to Sacramento twice and "beasting" in workouts against PGs that are significantly smaller than him. However, I doubt those workouts truly showcase PG talents and skills. You may be right that the draft ends up going the way you posted but don't expect someone not to laugh when your supporting evidence is a grainy 12 second video.
