Dude. There's no way the Jazz take on Deng or Hinrich for Boozer. That not only does NOT save them money NOW, but adds future liabilities to their roster. I just can't fathom the Jazz front office(typically fairly responsible) as doing this.

Sure every team's fans hopes their team will ignore the lux tax and spend freely like Paul Allen...but not every team's owners are BILLIONAIRES, even then, Paul Allen has his limits as he doesn't want a cash trap of a business.

you do realize they'd be paying it a grand total of one year, right? Harpring and Korver both expire, so unless Okur gets a raise (unlikely) that's enough to defray a large amount of the costs.

You do realize that one year(And I'm assuming if you deal Boozer, then you HAVE to keep Millsap) will cost upwards of 20+ million in ONE YEAR.

Are you assuming Milsap gets 10m his FIRST year? It's going to cost them around 7m in lux tax if its only the first year. escalating deals, even for 10/yr, start around 7 iirc

Utah also is looking at AK's deal as something they will try and dump for salary relief.

By the way, with the market drying up like it is, its looking more and more like Millsap wont be getting much more than the MLE, sure as hell not 10 mil a year to start.

No, I was assuming 7-8 in my figure as BYC. You also need to factor in the cap hold to Maynor as a guaranteed contract and the loss of revenue from profit sharings to teams UNDER the lux tax threshold.

Jazz are about 2-3 million over the lux as is. Add 7 million. Double the 10 million in lux tax payment and add about 8 million in revenue loss and that's actually close to 25 million, just to deal Boozer for these parts and sign Millsap to a 'REASONABLE' deal.

If Milsap gets an 8m/yr deal his starting salary will be under 7. For arguments sake I'll assume Utah completed the trade with Deng since his salary is higher than Hinrichs next season.

$71,873,737 is their current cap number, without maynor or milsap.
Boozer, Miles out- 16,023,900
Deng, Thomas in- 15,108,598
$-915,302
Maynor- +$1,300,00?
Milsap- +$6,700,000?
Net change: +$7,084,698 (if it's Hinrich, a shade over $6m)
$78,958,435
that's what, 9m over the lux tax? In 2011 they're back below it with a core of:
Deron
Brewer
Deng(Hinrich)
Milsap
resigned okur?
Knicks pick, Koufos

^^Do you have numbers on last years revenue gained by the teams not in lux tax? If only 5-6 teams are paying it, then those teams need to be way, way, way above the tax in order to give 25 teams 8m each

Apparently as of this moment there are 7 teams over a total of about 25 m over, so the payout right now for next season would be about 2 m per team. But that won’t be figured for another year so it will likely change.

It leaves us awful thin at C w/ just Noah back there. There's nothing wrong with the value imo though
Rose/Hinrich
Salmons/Hinrich
Deng/Salmons/Miles
Boozer/Johnson/Gibson
Noah/Gray

Yeah...we'd need a C.
