Blazers/Heat

Post#1 » by Bob loblaw » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:47 pm

How about Bayless+Outlaw to Miami for Haslem and maybe some sort of Miami pick?
Get a backup pf and help clearly define players roles. Haslem contract is also expiring.
Trade ID #5215060

Lineup in order of who starts, who gets backup, and who gets limited mins at each position.
pg-Miller/Blake/Rudy
sg-Roy/Rudy/Webster
sf-Webster/Batum/Roy
pf-LA/Haslem/Pendagraph or Cunningham
c-Oden/Pryz/Pendagraaph or Cunningham

I think that this would clearly define everyones roles and put a stop to player issues before they start. Heck, I would do this trade without a Miami pick. Thoughts?

I don't think this is the direction Miami is looking to go to. Bayless is still a few years away from contributing IMO (if ever)

I'm all for a consolidation trade for Portland, but Haslem is more valuable to other teams than Portland. He's a $7M expiring, which could fetch Miami some nice loot. However, Portland has no use for 2010 expirings.

Haslem is also a solid PF that you could feel comfortable playing 25-30 minutes a game, but Portland has only 12 minutes or so for him.

I think Portland is better served paying less and getting a less good PF in return.

I like Haslem for the Blazers, but not sure I want to give up Outlaw and Bayless to get him.

All we need to complete the transition is for Heat fans to say that the only way we're getting Haslem is if we trade Rudy.

I like Haslem, but its ridiculous that we have to give up Bayless for a 1 year rental of Haslem, not to mention we are going to be paying 7 million for a guy that is going to play 10-12 MPG?

Don't think so.

I don't want Rudy for him, either. Honestly, Haslem is one of those intangible glue guys that, unless you're moving him for a star player, he's just not worth losing. Value wise, this is a great return. It just doesn't fit the direction Miami needs to go in to keep Wade...

I get that Miami likes Haslem, but the Blazers would never trade rudy for him. If Miami somehow gets boozer and keeps haslem then this trade would be a really good fit all around. I didn't realize that miami was so high on him, he is a nice player, but he would probably be best suited to being a backup.

Portland passes. Outlaw has decent value and bayless should play more this season to see what he's worth.

Let's try this again; we wouldn't ask for him. We're looking to get better, not develop somewhere down the road... maybe.

Why wouldn't Miami be high on him? He shut down Dirk in the Finals, and has been a consistent and solid dirty work player for this team his entire career. He's our Charles Oakley/Horace Grant. Is he the best their is? No, but he brings everything he's got every night...

What is wrong with Miami fans? Bayless had a solid rookie season where his minutes were limited because they were in a tight playoff race. So the idea of trading him for Udonis Haslem? No. A glorified backup who has been in the starting lineup the same way Kendrick Perkins starts for the C's. 10 and 8 with no steals or blocks is not a helpful enough stat line, especially when those numbers diminish as soon as he arrives. He got those numbers in 31 minutes a game for his career. I am not trying to knock Haslem, he is a solid contributor on Miami, but on Portland he really is a 12-18 minute a game guy who would just be a minute killer, rather than a real contributor. To add onto this point, Travis would be the second option on Miami over Beasley and O'Neal and would would average around 20 ppg. He has shown time and time again when he is a focal point he will pour in massive amounts of points. But seriously, stop with the Haslem to Portland deals, unless we are really trying to shed cap, I would highly doubt he will ever rock a Blazer uniform.

Bayless+Outlaw to Miami for Haslem
This is a good value in return for Miami but they need Haslem more than what these two players will bring with the Heat. Miami has only two PF right now, Haslem and Beasley.

Wow, you really don't have a clue what Haslem does, do you? You really think his game is about 10 and 8? Seriously? Man, Buck Williams needs to make a return trip to Portland and knock some sense into you.

That's ridiculous. Travis Outlaw is a nice player, but there's a reason he's been nothing more than a role playing bench player throughout his career, and it's not because he's capable of being a team's second option. It's because something's missing. Teams don't intentionally bury guys who are better offensively than JO and Beasley just for the hell of it. They play them. They develop them. They turn them into allstars - unless you're calling your organization incompetent...
