Goddamn it! Gregg blows it and Fox can't field it. Gonzalez gets out but Headley ties game!

Gregg is a pretty middle of the run closer but the amount of hate towards him gets old. Particularly how you, Sportsworld can act as if Wood would be so much better this year.

Any closer that gives up 3 runs to the Padres...sucks. And it all starts with walking a **** hitter like David Eckstein.

There is good news. The Cubs are officially done so we can stop watching this abomination of a baseball team. 6 games out of the division and 4 out of the wild card with 4 teams ahead of us. And Jim Hendry and probably Lou Piniella are good as gone. (Lou probably quits on his own. Hendry better be fired.)

Well I'm not even going to try and defend Gregg anymore. AFter this he's undefendable. But on another note K-Rod gave up five runs to the padres.

Lou's postgame conference is coming up. Should be entertaining.

Just **** shut up Sportsworld. How this makes you happy despite how maybe it gets Hendry and Lou fired is just kind of infuriating. I still truly believe that maybe we can do something. It's already tough enough watching this team sometimes we don't need downers and people hoping we do badly to toot a trumpet when we suck.

Hendry should be fired. Look at his offseason. Kevin Gregg, Milton Bradley, Aaron Heilman, Aaron Miles. This has to go down as one of the worst offseasons ever. Not to mention signing Alfonso Soriano to an 8 year 136 million dollar deal. Looking really good now. And what has Lou done in Chicago that warrants him to stay? Two division titles with teams that were supposed to win the division easily and both teams promptly were swept in the 1st round. But if I had a choice, I'd fire Hendry in a heartbeat and keep Lou.

And the Cubs are clearly done. They still don't have an offense, their bullpen is still a mess, and they can't beat any good teams.

Here's the Cubs record vs teams ahead of them in the Wild Card and division:
Braves: 2-4
Giants: 1-1
Rockies: 2-4
Marlins: 4-3
Cardinals: 5-8

Combined: 14-20

Add the Dodgers and Phillies (division leaders)
Dodgers: 2-2
Phillies: 1-5

Combined: 17-27

If you want to keep believing that this team is capable of making the playoffs then more the power to you but I just don't think they have it in them. Way too many holes on this team.

Not sure. Have the radio on and they haven't played it yet. I assume if he says anything noteworthy or blows up it would be all over ESPN tomorrow. I bet he doesn't do anything though.

My point is that when things are looking down, don't get happy when it happens because we might lose our mediocre front office. And two years ago we were even worse at certain points. Cards folded last year to Brewers in wild card.

I don't know if Lou will be back next year though. This season has to have taken a huge toll on him, I know it has for me. I've been thinking since May/June that he's going to call it quits at the end of the season and Alan Trammel will take over next season. That would be a huge downgrade.

Usually they have it on WGN Radio or Comcast SportsNet but neither played it. Maybe he didn't have one tonight :dontknow:
