Re: ABE Polin Died
He did wonderful things for the city of DC, as well as for many other people. He brought basketball to DC, brought hockey to DC, and revitalized the area. RIP to the self-proclaimed nutty optimist.

Pollin and his family made a huge impact on the DC community. My prayers go out to his family and friends.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

Re: ABE Polin Died
An owner can do two things for the fans: (1) provide a team to cheer for and (2) provide a team that wins the Championship. Abe did both of those things for me. I love the man.
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born unto you; he is Christ the Lord.

A shame you had to pass away in times like these.

Re: ABE Polin Died
Can someone please put together a short history on the man .. on what he did for the Wizards/Bullets and the local area in general?
This will help folks visiting from other boards to properly understand the extent to which Abe was integral part of the franchise and the city.

Re: ABE Polin Died
Damn my heart just skipped a beat.
RIP Mr. Pollin.
For people who don't know what Abe did for the city -- well he was one of the most giving people in the area. His community service efforts were pretty much unparalleled, and his efforts/donations helped a great number of people.
This is a sad day for the franchise. I hope the players push aside their petty gripes and play for the honor of Abe.

The man did not deserve 1/4 of the crap that many of the average fans gave him. RIP Abe ... you will be missed and your contributions will not be forgotten!

Damn...
Didn't really know much about him, except that he was the owner of the Wiz, it's weird knowing he's not their anymore... Hope he wasn't in any pain when he passed... Prayers goes out to his family... He'll be missed...

We should keep this thread pinned for the year at least. We can reference Mojo, officiating and general dumb luck in relation to Abe's pearly gate pull.
A lucky bounce is all Abe from here on out.

RIP Abe. Built the MCI center with his own cash and single handedly revitalized a pretty downtrodden section of the city. Good on you man.
Help us, Obi-wan Leonsis. You're our only hope.

Re: ABE Polin Died
A very sad day. My condolences to his family and close friends. He is one of the most important DC people of our time - a great great man from the old school who earned an owner's seat in heaven. He did it his way all the way - with integrity and loyalty.

Pre 1997 Washington DC was more fun and exciting than post 1997 Washington DC though
Capital Centre > Verizon Center
Not only was it more fun and exciting it was more affordable too.

Really??? You've never mentioned this. What a perfect place to include this original thought.
