Why are mods so tight on locking threads?

Several years ago I used to run a messageboard for an online game (called Subspace).

Our membership wasn't enormous like REALGM, but we had over 1,000 members.

RealGM has almost 60,000 Members.

On a side note, does anyone else find it funny that a Poster who is less than a couple of Weeks old, has an axe to grind?
