Best tight end?

Post#1 » by CentralQB5 » Sun Dec 13, 2009 4:50 pm

Who is the best tight end in the NFL? I think it's a tie between Tony Gonzalez and Jason Witten. Both of them can run great routes and catch also they can both run block great.

Vernon Davis?

(Arguably the best blocking TE in the game who also happens to lead the league with 11 TD receptions, to go with his 66 catches for 815 yards.)
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Wow lakeshow I thoght you were going to say fred davis. I think this is the first time I saw a post from you that was not USC related.

As an Eagles fan, I would love agree with you...But his blocking skills needs work to be considered the best..as a pass catcher..he is up there!

If you are ranking all five of these better than Davis than you are mistaken greatly. All of them have better QB's and overall offensive team than Davis yet Davis puts up better numbers. Davis made the pro bowl alternate team last year just because he is one of the best at blocking. Now he is two touchdowns away from the record for tight ends. I would not necessarily say he is the best tight end but easily in the top five and very close to number one.

Not saying he is the best but can Marcedes Lewis get some love? He may be the best blocking TE and put up pretty good receiving stats last year too

I can't say he's better than Vernon Davis in 2010, but I think Marcedes Lewis wins the argument for best blocking TE mentioned so far. His 2010 receiving numbers were close to Davis as well; 10 TDs, 58 receptions, 700 yards.

The difference is Lewis was a key *blocker* in the leagues 3rd best rushing offense; he played tonnes of snaps like a tackle, going one on one with a DE in obvious running downs, running to his side, and still played enough to put up those great passing numbers.
