1 Month In: Grade the "new" TNA

I think they've done a decent job. Sure they've made some blunders (Hall & Waltman) but overall I think they're doing something at least... different. Raw has been getting VERY boring lately, though I will say that this past Monday was the best they've done since the start of the new year. I think Bischoff and Hogan have done a pretty average job so far though, and things are at least semi-entertaining. The matches are their strong point I would say (shouldn't they be?), but some of the angles that they've decided to push are a little questionable. Having VAL VENIS beat Daniels at the PPV was a definite head scratcher. The Hall & Waltman thing is just not entertaining to me. Having those 2 old, fat, drunken, pot head NWO has beens still trying to pull off that angle is just dumb to me. It's not entertaining, controversial, or really anything that I'm looking for when I tune in to my grown man soap opera that is professional wrestling. I don't really like the story of AJ Styles emulating Ric Flair's stylin' and profilin' persona. It seems extremely forced to me and borders on uncomfortable to watch. I thought the "Orlando Screw Job" thing was pretty questionable too, though I will say that it had my attention for a second. Oh and then there's the Nasty Boys.... yeah...

On the positive side, since becoming a regular watcher this year I've loved the actual in-ring action. The tag team division is awesome! I'm not a big fan of their look but Generation Me has been really impressive. Motor City Machineguns are great in the ring also. I like Hernandez and Morgan too. Didn't think they really matched up well as a team but they're both pretty decent big guys. Hell I can even watch the TNA Knockouts matches, because the women actually have some wrestling ability. I really like the fact that they brought in Ken Anderson. I just wish they wouldn't have gone with him being a heel right off the bat.

All in all, I think I'd give them a B- so far with some definite room for improvement. But they are definitely offering up a better product than what we've had available to us on television for a little while.

First thing I'll say is that I thought this was a necessary move for TNA. The MEM angle has to be considered a failure and TNA's ratings were going to continue to remain stagnant unless they did something.

Having said that, the thing I've been really keeping an eye out for is whether they have in fact learned the lessons from WCW and the answer is still unclear. TNA has a lot of young talent, and when those guys were brought in I really didn't know how that talent was going to be used. Its been mixed so far although the most recent show is giving me less reason to be optimistic. Yes its just one show but with so much time being given to people like Hall and Waltman, Foley, and Jarrett and a show that was without The Pope, Matt Morgan and especially Samoa Joe. I could be wrong about this, but I belieeve Joe's sole appearance during the Hogan/Bischoff era was a loss to Desmond Wolfe.
