Iupati was a borderline 2nd, but with his senior bowl week, he's moved up as has Graham. No way they slip to the 2nd, none. Dan Williams is a good player, good enough to go middle to late 1st.

Theres a bigger drop in talent among 2nd/3rd tier DBs and other positions IMO. The 2nd tier guys (Cox, Ghee, Warren, Jackson) will all be gone before the 4th/5th round and you're left with much les talented guys.

The drop in talent among linemen isn't as severe.

Icness wrote:I'm finding more and more people who like McCoy over Suh. I have no real preference, but McCoy is more of a gap penetrator and sacker while Suh is more power and a stud against the inside run who will get about half the sacks. The Lions need both and I will be happy with either one.

I took a real liking to Perrish Cox down in Mobile. He's got a lot of Dre Bly in him, a QB baiter with great hands and great instincts for jumping the route and playing inside man cover technique. Cox was a more enthusiastic tackler than Bly in college, though he's smaller. He also is a great upgrade at PR/KR. I slotted him to the Lions at #34 in the latest mock but that's just a guess at this point. I do know the Lions coaches were looking very hard at DL and secondary, which is encouraging.

They had a tackle on the North team that steadily improved throughout the week and really seemed to click with the coaches, Ed Wang of Virginia Tech. Very big, a little lumbering and pudgy, but he's got real good hands and arm extension. He's a good candidate at the top of the 5th or perhaps a little earlier with some slot jockeying. I know the offensive coaching staff saw a lot in him. Probably won't help much next year but could emerge as a starter in 11 or 12.

Two guys that do not fit the Lions: Patrick Robinson and Taylor Mays, both of whom could fall to #34. Let 'em keep falling, we don't need any more DBs that are devoid of football IQs. I've never been a big Mays supporter but honest to God it's like he has no concept that his job as safety entails anything other than "kill the receiver crossing in front of me by taking a bad angle and coaxing an unnecessary roughness penalty". I was pleasantly surprised that a lot of NFL coaches and scouts really soured on him.

McCoy will be a fine consolation prize assuming the Rams dont go completely off the deep end. I'll be excited to see him next year. Perrish Cox would be cool with me from all i have heard.

to Liq, no doubt that Iupati and Graham will not be there. no way in hell

What kind of draft pick could we get for Julian Peterson?

How about Dwayne White?

Yeah, unless Peterson wants to leave, I don't see him going anywhere. He's still one of our best linebackers, something he couldn't say on most other teams.

I don't think Dewayne White is a long-term player for the Lions, but I also don't think anyone will give up anything of value (draft pick) for him. depending on who the Lions draft or sign, I could see White being cut.

Hey Icness, can you elaborate on Ed Wang? I haven't seen or heard much of him.

Surprised by the negative feedback on Patrick Robinson....he's a guy I thought would work out well here.

Draft possibilities at CB keep fading away....still think we need to address this position via free agency.

Don't think we won't if we can. I mean, if a CB agrees to come to Detroit, then Mayhew will sign him. It's finding those guys that want to sign with us that's the problem.

From what I can tell from Robinson, he's athletic as hell, but makes very poor decisions over and over and over again. People question his IQ more so then his physical abilities.

Like I said before, the drop between CBs after the 2nd tier guys is pretty steep and Robinson is still barely in that second tier of CBs.

If the Lions can grab one of Wilson, Cox, Warren, Ghee in the 2nd.... they'd be foolish to pass one up hoping to find a good CB later on.

Stafford wants Dez Bryant?

Any way Bryant falls to us in the 2nd round? Even if he does, do we not go defense/o-line there anyway?

Not possible Dez falls. And Stafford knows this. I think it was more of a hint that a wide receiver will be coming to Detroit in either FA or the draft. But Dez is a top 15 pick for sure. No way he slips past that.

I do find it interesting that the Lions are including Stafford in the war room process a little this season....

I don't think his opinion is going to effect Mayhew's decision that much. I just think they want to hear his opinion.

Agreed....Stafford won't have that much pull. Just interesting they are including him.

Wonder if they are including other players as well (Calvin?)....

I dont think they would be including other players. Im guessing they want Matt to feel like he is the leader and a big part of the team. Its ok with me

so Walter Jones is gunna retire. The Seahawks obviously need a LT. Anyone think this could help our chance to move down for their two first rounders? If they get enamored with someone like Okung and dont think he will last they may consider it.

This could give us a glimmer of hope for trading down

We first need to "serious" interest in Okung.....then they might be concerned that we'd take him - then they might try to trade up. If everyone knows for a fact that we're taking Suh or McCoy, then they might look to trade up to #3 instead.....

Tbh, every day it's easier for me to say this. If Suh falls to us, I would try trading our #2 and #34 for NE's 4 draft picks in the first 2 rounds.

I would rather have something like this (Dan Williams, Jared Odrich, Parrish Cox, Corey Wooton)

then just this (Suh, Parrish Cox).

My opinion on best draft strategy is piling up as many picks in the first 4 rounds as possible. The more starters the better, even if it means missing out on Suh.

Where are NE's picks?

We could essentially trade down with Seattle, then trade the later Seattle pick to NE for a couple picks....then trade down from #34 for multiple picks.....

That many trade downs is unlikely. I was talking about that with someone I know who used to work for the Lions and he basically told me that it's hard enough trading down as it is, and trying to do it is a pain in the as* for GM's so doing it throughout the draft is very unlikely.
