OSU beat a good out of conference team last year and it didnt really matter when it came to the National title game.

And Hawaii closes out with a win for an undefeated season.

And they deserve to play in the National Championship. My argument stands.
Everyone wrote off Boise State last year and they shocked the nation in the Fiesta Bowl.

That's true, and I speak tongue-in-cheek, but I think people are crazy if they don't factor in recent trends in a conference's performance. Last year's title game, plus the Big 10 in general this year mean that another title game embarassment (if it happens) should make people really look at what's causing this great conference to have problems.

Did you know (per SI, which clearly some of us need to read) that Hawaii's defense ranks 31st in the nation?

They have not played that great of talent but that has to count for something.

Also, we can add "broken record" to the list of adjectives for Bob Stoops that begins with "douche bag":

Ivan Maisel wrote:That explains why Stoops felt the need to point out that Oklahoma had defeated the top-ranked team in the nation by 21 points on a neutral field.

And point it out again.

And again.

And again.

And when the moderator wrapped up the press conference by asking Stoops if he wanted to make one more pitch, Stoops said it for a fifth time.

"Like everybody, I hear it all the time," Stoops said. "Who is playing the best today? Who played the best right now? Heck, I don't see anyone else playing No. 1 in the country, beating them on a neutral field by 21.

"That's about all I can do. Hopefully it matters to somebody."

i agree people will think twice about putting big 10 team in NC but this year is different than last year. Last year, OSU went to the game as a overwhelming favorite and most people even thought Florida shouldnt be there. This year tables turn around and LSU will go into this overwhelming favorite and most people think OSU shouldnt be there even though they ll rank #1. I would say as long as they keep it close and make a game out of it, it shouldnt effect the conference reputation as they are expected to lose anyway. Also, next year looking somewhat bright for Big 10 as no matter what happens in the title game, OSU will rank top 3 in preseason and Wisconsin and Illinois should be legit contenders.

Nine carries for Steve Slaton. NINE!!!!! Rich Rodriguez robbed WVU of national championship spot.

btw I'm fine. I've dealt with much worse in my life. This week just happens to have the worst circumstances taking place one after another.

Why does that need to count for something? I could get a team together and hold Northern Colorado to 6 points. Don't get me wrong, Hawaii is a good team, they deserve to be in the top 10 (I guess), but it's just ridiculous to call them a NC contender.

Not talking about betting lines. Talking about OSU being ranked #1, which they only are because of the default respect people have for OSU and the Big 10. They lose again, and hopefully people will stop handing it such a ranking to them unless they have more going on than that.

Agree. It's another stat that's just a raw number unadjusted for schedule. Useful intra-conference. Sketchy when comparing between two conferences thought to be comparable. Worthless when comparing programs who face much different strength of schedule.

when you play in the wac and choose to play TWO d1aa opponents ooc you void any argument for being in the national championship game even if every other team has 3 losses. they can't control that their conference is weak but they can control who they play ooc and they chose to play a schedule that would make an sec team blush.

too bad uw couldn't hang on. if they had won they would've gone to a bowl as the wac champs.

WTF?!? Are you trying to be sarcastic or do you seriously not know that UW is in the Pac-10? Just because they had a crappy year and finished at the bottom of the conference doesn't mean that you can assign them to a different conference.
