Anyone else really like DeMarcus Cousins?

Post#1 » by WesWesley » Fri Mar 5, 2010 8:22 am

John Wall is getting all the attention for Kentucky, but man, has Cousins not been awesome? He's aggressive, has good hands, sets good picks, and finishes so well. He's a sick rebounder and is pretty athletic for his size. He is getting up there this year.

Now I know he's doing this against college boys who can't compare to the men that are in the NBA, but I really see a nice player in this kid.

He's obviously never going to be a superstar, but I picture him as a guy who could start on a really good team, just because he'll play his role well.

I think he's even more valuable to the Kentucky team than Wall.
Without Cousins they would really struggle in half-court, ala Texas this year.

He reminds me a little of a Fab Five Chris Webber, although he doesn't have the ridiculous perimeter skills C-Webb had. Cousins has a stronger back to the basket game though.
Jerry Reinsdorf; the undisputed king of allowing his GM's to run amok with unchecked power and ego. :king:

Yes, I like Cousins but I don't know why people would think he couldn't be a legit star. He has ridiculous footwork/athleticism for someone his size. If he avoids distractions in his career, the sky is the limit for him.

Cousins is a top 10 player in the nation. His attitude is sketchy, but there is plenty about his game to like.

Fans like his play now...

His put back at the buzzer was great! Right place at right time...and sends game in OT!

I don't trust him seriously to work hard and be great once he achieves his goal of making the NBA.
Big country boy with no mental and emotional training. Once he gets in the big city might go wild.

His focus and coach ability will come into question, and he seems like a Rasheed Wallace type guy with a temper you can get in his head easily.

Yes he has NBA size, and talent but....I don't trust the other intangibles about him. But I would draft him still, but not before some other guys...

I would take Patrick Patterson before Cousins if I was a certain team. he is safer and works hard and he can build on his frame without getting fat and lazy.
Cousins you will have to worry about his weight and his emotion and mental state and whether he can go up against real men instead of boys and get his shot blocked and come back hungry.
This is what I question. The talent is undeniable against mis-matches. But when he plays guys his size and can't bully then...then what?

There is a reason he is projected to go in the top 5 in various mock drafts for June's draft. Nice player. I actually thought Renardo Sidney was better than Cousins out of high school, but we don't actually know with Sidney being ruled ineligible.

I think Cousins is a very talented player, but his lack of drive and top line athleticism will keep him from being a GREAT NBA player IMO.

To the contrary, he absolutely can be a superstar in the NBA. Any post player with his size, quick feet, soft hands, and agressiveness has a chance to be great. His attitude and work ethic may need some work but he has the physical skills to be a dominant player.

Pretty good foot work, but doesn't seem too athletic to me.

Hes REALLY strong. I would put him in the top 10 strongest NBA players by the time he plays in his first pre-season game.
