The one strong plus for EG is his track record with 2nd round picks and the Wizards basically have 2 of them, plus Ted will probably be willing to buy 1 or 2 more if intriguing players are available.

He has drafted pretty poorly in the mid-1st round(Haislip, Nick Young, OPech). The only high pick he actually used was an number 8 on TJ Ford. It is injuries not a lack of ability that derailed Ford's path to stardom. Party John was the only real miss among his late 1st or 2nd round picks.

It's not the draft that would worry me, it would be how he could blow our cap space on questionable contracts.

I want EG gone... I have no faith in this guy in the draft. I hope Ted is the owner before the Lottery, I REALLY HOPE he cleans house... coaches, medical, and front office.

We need people who will not be afraid to use a lottery pick for the future of the franchise instead of just trading it. (2004, 2009)

We also need people who recognize we have two young bigs who can flourish and not trade them for peanuts (which has been the Wizard way)

No more EG... no more Flip

Ted was on the Mike Wise show today and stated loudly and clearly that he is a believer in analytics!

Here's a response to bulletsforever's article from somebody very knowledgeable, Joe T of draftexpress:

Teams with full-fledged analytics people in the front office:

Boston
Houston
Dallas
Portland
Denver
Cleveland
Memphis (started this season)
Orlando
San Antonio
Toronto (started this season)
Oklahoma City

Seems to me Ted is not going to want to have Ernie building through the draft.

Half of the young guys SA has could be Wizards. Memphis has a young player to come thanks to Washington. Dallas and Cleveland didn't improve through the draft, but they had to know they got better thanks to Washington before they made the deals they made.

That would be a HUGE mistake in my opinion. This is a pivotal off-season, you can't just let EG have one more year to potential overspend for a marginal FA or waste yet another draft. If you let EG take the reigns this off-season, you are pretty much stuck with those decisions for years to come.

Even if EG stays, he wont be the EG of old. Owners make a big different. They give the marching orders. I long said part of what people blame as EG was actually EG painting between Abs lines. I expect the same would be true, only they would be Teds lines which are WAY BETTER LINES.

It starts at the top. Ted will be way better than Abe.

Oh, and can you change the title Mohamed.

Its great that you started it, but it's not your OFFICIAL TED THREAD.

I think Ted Tread would be fine. Never understood what made a thread official. Is there some application to fill out. None of the threads I started ever made it to OFFICIAL status. Even after there were tons of posts in it. Maybe someone can help me understand how I get a mod to make one of them Official.

Seems like the same type of stuff is written in the regular threads as in the Official threads.

Off topic. Take all complaints to the new Doc's Official Complain About The Mods and Board Thread. It's Official!

Are we so beaten down as a fan base that we people don't see what this means?

For everyone who was screaming about the failure to take Dajuan Blair in the second round, this means something like that is extremely unlikely to happen again. The case for Blair was all numbers driven. The case against him had to do with how he looked and his medical history. The former should have won out.

Gone are the days of overpaying for mediocre veterans like Songaila, Daniels, Stevenson. We're going to see a team tha's much smarter about how they use the salary cap. Everything in the organization is going to be more data driven. Sheet, that's going to effect the medical staff, the in-game experience, the uniforms!

Get on the Teddy Train, people. It's going to be a fun ride!

I'm not getting my hopes up too much. Other teams have already used analytics to grab the low-hanging fruit. Nowadays, just about everybody has got some sabermetrics guys on staff. There's no longer a huge competitive advantage. On the other hand, at least we'll no longer be dealing with a significant disadvantage.

I continue to hope that Ted will have a "new administration" ready to get started from day-1. I just hope that he does not intend to carry-out his vision of the future through Ernie Grunfeld and the Unseld's.

From an article on Sam Presti (NYTimes, here) :

They’ve decided that you grow through the draft, you add certain elements, and you stay with your plan until you think it has either proved itself or failed,” N.B.A. Commissioner David Stern said, adding, “Teams that don’t do that invariably seem like a bad EKG, and I think that the Thunder have gone straight up.”

Jibes with Ted's philosophy as well, sounds like. His 10-or-12 part plan basically said you have to commit to the suck for a little while stockpiling picks and young scrappy talent, all while making plain to your fanbase that you're building for the future. In theory all the players you add are hard working fundamentally sound players, or energetic young talent with good attitude, so the fans can get behind them as gutsy underdogs while they're learning how to win. Basically: The DC Thunder.

Great. If the Caps are any indication I can't wait to be the East Coast version of the Mavs. Regular season champs....woo

Totally cool, just heard that on the radio heading home and got really excited. So glad this all got done before the draft. Now send Ted to the Lotto for good luck and come out with a top 3 pick.........then we are on the way.......Yahooooooo.
