Re: Javale McGee CAN Play
the thing that's hard is games like tonight
you can argue that he had a 'good' game and he
did make a few good plays and was impacting the
game.
then there are the wild completely dumb shots
but the worst was fouling out in a game we HAD to
have him when 2 of his fouls he got with his back
turned to the play. He makes good plays almost by
accident (broken clock right 2x a day) but he is
SO clueless on how to play D, it's mindboggling.
All that said, we have no other choice but to play
him and hope a light eventually comes on.

Re: Javale McGee CAN Play
Clippers interim coach Kim Hughes isn't going to increase the minutes of young center DeAndre Jordan unless he starts playing better defense.
Jordan is averaging 14:41 minutes per game this season.
"If he runs back harder on defense, he'll play more," Hughes said. "His offense was good. He was four of five from the field, all dunks, no post moves. In practice today he was terrific.
"His playing time is predicated only on playing defense. If he plays better defense, he'll play up to 30 [minutes]; he knows that. I'll be true to that. But it's on him. He has to follow up what he needs to do.
Here's to remembering the other 7-foot prospect selected the same year JaVale was at pick # 35

Mike Wise said that McGee is being demoted from the starting line in favor of Singleton... I at least hope he keeps getting 20-30 minutes a game, because the best thing Singleton can be is a 29-year-old role player next year, and McGee needs to keep getting development.

as clueless as JM has been, I don't like this move.
In fact, given where we are now, I wish that JM
and N1 would both start and play 25+ minutes
the rest of the season.

I definitely agree about McGee. Keep starting him. Keep yanking him when he doesn't box out or rotate on D. I want McGee going up against starters every night so he can realize how hard he has to work to make it in this league. If he comes off the bench and schools other scrubs in garbage time, he'll go back to thinking he is smarter than the coach.
I can live with the Young decision. It appears that management has completely given up on Young and would rather spend time trying to see if Gee and Livingston have a role in the future. At least in the Young case, they're looking at other young replacements. With McGee, they're giving his minutes to a known quantity in Singleton.

This move was predicted long-ago. Funny how Flip doesn't reward Nick Young when he performs well.
I just hope we don't see the kind of silly, EJ-like small ball with Singleton playing out of position for too-long in-games, do it when we can get away with it & continue to play McGee 15 minutes a night.

I also don't want to drive up Singleton's price. Right now, everyone figures he's putting up empty numbers off the bench for a terrible team. Let's keep it that way. If he is moved into the starting lineup, and the Wizards win some games, it'll raise eyebrows around the league.

I don't see how much sense that would make, it's not even just missing rotations and failing to box out, the kid has no clue where to even be on the court.
The kids got a ton of potential, but he might also just be the single worst defender in the league. I don't see how you can reward that with a starting job and starter minutes.

Who cares how bad he is this season if he's learning anything at all?
Exactly.

Saturday, March 6, 2010 was when I predicted that.
More predictions:
1. Blatche will be traded.
2. McGee will be traded.
3. Wizards will never win more the 44 games with Flip Saunders as coach.
4. Flip will always prefer veterans and jump shooters, or guys with hustle and no game over young, athletic players.
5. As long as Flip is the coach there will be conflict and he will project the blame to others--the young players.

More shocking that McGee actually remembered how to run that singular play...

McGee can score. He's a great offensive rebounder. He's got great hands. He's actually got good range on his jumper. Don't be shocked to see McGee breakout with a 25-30 point game. All he needs is the shots.

McGee shot more and got to the line more often as a rookie, before being subjected to the coaching of Flip Saunders--who plays Oberto and Singleton ahead of McGee now.
I'm thoroughly convinced McGee is a fine offensive player if given FREEDOM and ENCOURAGEMENT, as opposed to being hemmed in by a control freak, perfectionist, who insists on system ball and who knocks guys in the media.
Sixteen losses in a row. Flip needs to back of, let McGee play til he fouls out. Let him be creative. Just like working with kids, if you let them be themselves they think creatively and do the most amazing things. However, if you limit them you stifle their growth.
Yikes, 75 games in Flip runs plays for Javale. Should have tried that in November when Jamison was THE PF.

I disagree and I'm a McGee fan. He was my choice for our pick that year. But McGee without coaching is to all over the place. He jumps to block to much. He drives left and shoots right. He has been out of position to much on D. He needs to pass it out after a rebound more when he doesn't have a clear move to the basket. And on and on.
But I do agree I think he has range just like I knew Dray had it. I don't mind him shooting from the outside some but I want it to be like a saw last night..get balance and take your time. He has a soft stroke and good form when he takes his time. He just needs to slow down on the outside set shot.
It's not like many can get to him to block it from out there.
He also needs to spot trying to dribble like Dray does or drive from 15 feet out. At least not yet.
Props to McGee. Back to back good games. In two years, people will see a lot more from him. He already can produce highlight worthy plays. He just needs to keep developing more solid in control, smart game. I like his energy. He just needs to play smarter and pick his spots better.
He was always a four year plan. I see progress. He is a huge talent. Just need to develop it.
I expect a big off-season from him.

McGee looks like he hasn't hit that thickening stage you go through in your low twenties after you stop growing. He looks kinda like Dwight Howard did when he first came in, you could see that he was going to get thicker and denser. I don't think McGee needs to play smarter so much as he needs to just gain twenty pounds of muscle so people like Gray can't just knock him out of the way on defense.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

Very true, but it doesn't appear as-though McGee is hitting the weights, he appears all-stick. But like you said, the weight will begin coming-on right at the end of his rookie contract, he is going to get $$$ offers when his rookie deal is up.
