i pine for wall because i think he's the best talent in the draft. the gap between him and the next guy could be less than i consider it, but i'm not trying to draft a michael beasley over derrick rose. drafting for team needs over talent leads to bowie over jordan, and "always draft the big man" leads to oden over durant. the argument could be made the other direction against BPA, but in my mind wall is a sure thing, can't miss, #1 pick this year.
in all likelihood, this is simply us throwing crap because i doubt we get the top pick. but again, it's a forum, so discussing it regardless doesn't get me worked into a tizzy.
Really good points, NBTW. Just be clear I think Cousins is better than Wall. I think Cousins is the BPA.
Looking back at the NCAA Tourney game UK just lost a few days ago, Wall got off to a quick start. He hit jumpers, including one or two threes and had 8 quick points. What happened? Kentucky fell in love with the jumper and lost the game. In fairness, Cousins had turnover problems. However, he finished the game 6-11 while Wall went 7-18. In the two previous NCAA games Cousins had been 7-8 and 9-10. The entire strategy West Virginia used (from their press conference) was to sag in and deny entry passes to Cousins and to make Kentucky beat them from outside. Kentucky ended up going 4-32 from 3PT. NBTW, I like Cousins because the guys in the paint win games in the playoffs. I could be wrong, however ....
Honestly, I really feel like this is one time I could be wrong. Wall is a monster of an athlete ...
Past misses that I can recall today include Sweetney, Almond, Quincy Douby, Luke Jackson, Adam Morrison, Jiri Welsch, Nikola Tskitishvili, Keith Closs--I miss my share I'm sure there's more. Westbrook and Green are much better than I thought. Blair's actually not as good as Taj Gibson. Both are good, but Gibson's superior IMO.
More than the guys I miss, I really take pride in picking guys nobody thinks can play. Kenneth Faried will be a stud in the NBA. He belongs in round one regardless of whether he can defend PFs or not. Fredette will do well offensively. I expect he'll be a first round pick. His game reminds me of George Hill with the Spurs. Larry Sanders and Aminu both will do well. James Anderson will be a fine player. I also think Gilstrap might be better than teammate Brackins.
Last but not least, I think Scheyer will do better in the NBA than Singler.
Tre Johnson is the future of the Wizards.
