Are you guys sad to see Ernie Sims go? I'm trying to decide if I should be excited about acquiring him or not.

Mayhew has been bringing in a lot of TE's from the draft. Scheffler is a MI kid and is actually pretty damn good. Underutilized by McDaniels. This tells me Pettigrew isn't healing very well from his ACL tear.

I have mixed feeling about this. Idk what Mayhew's plan is for our LB's. Do we keep Levy at MLB or put him back on the outside where he played in college and draft someone like Brandon Spikes or sign Keith Bullocks? Idk, I'm confused.

For the price you gave up, you should be doing back flips.

Bar as to your question about LBs i have just the thing

http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcnorth/post/_ ... fler-trade

It's going to take some time to sort out who will replace Sims. One thing I feel pretty confident about: It won't be DeAndre Levy. I asked Schwartz about Levy last month at the NFL owners meetings, specifically about whether he was locked in at middle linebacker. Schwartz obviously didn't know this trade was coming, but he couldn't have been more affirmative in saying Levy would remain in the middle. I don't think there's an obvious weakside answer on the roster, so it will probably be an open competition unless the Lions acquire a veteran in some other fashion. As of right now, I'm guessing Jordon Dizon, Zack Follett and perhaps free-agent signee Landon Johnson are all in the mix. The Lions could draft at least one additional participant later this week.

Follett must be crying of happiness at the chance he's getting.

He hits like a missle and is fast as hell. But he is kind of an idiot and is often in the wrong lanes and can overrun plays.

But for what, a 5th, yeah you should be happy

Im guessing Dizon or Follett is going to be the guy. Obviously they have faith in someone or plan on drafting a LB.

As far as Scheffler, kid is a playmaker at TE and is almost another WR out there. He'll give Matty another weapon

Hmmmmmm.... we all know Cliff Avril is the ideal 3-4 OLB, but do you think we can transition him to 4-3 OLB? Idk if he's fast enough, but he would definitely hit the RB running outside the tackle like they've never been hit before.

I like it. The Lions have been looking at TEs for awhile now. They were probably going to draft one. They got a very good receiving TE and a 7th round pick for a LB who didn't fit our defense anymore and was going to be a free agent after this season.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Mayhew not only draft a LB but pick one up in free agency. He will build it up, but he has to get the pieces for it first.

I really don't get the outrage by some fans right now. Not on this board, but I just got a text from a friend who is livid and see some weird remarks on other forums. Sims was being shopped. We got good value out of him. And mayhew address another need while picking up a pick.

The Lions should put Tony on D when they are playing the Bears, Cutler will through it to him all day...

Well, to be fair, this is his contract year and there is no way he'd return next year. Atleast we got something for him. He's a WR in a TE body. Very fast with very soft hands. I'm liking this more and more.

Killer on Mlive is speculating that this move is going to be followed shortly by more, probably for a veteran LB. He thinks picks from our side could be involved.

^ I've talked to Chris Houston on facebook. He seems like a cool dude. Really has his head on straight.
