Re: D Smith: Bosh for Lee, Gallo (Update pg 9)
I think the difference between the 5 and 6 year deal will be 15-20 mil, max....there is no way he won't earn at least 10-15 mil a year after his next deal expires (assuming the next CBA will be similar to the current one, which is what I strongly suspect.)
If I'm his agent, it isn't necessarily clear that I'd advocate the 6 year deal by all means. The next CBA will almost certainly be similar to this one. The 5 year deal has the nice advantage of allowing you to opt out and sign a big new deal in 2013, when Bosh will be 29 (and presumably with a much better resume than his current one, e.g. WCF appearances or greater.) So it isn't so clear that the 6 year deal is by far the best, if the goal is to maximize career earnings.

Bosh can sign here and then after 2 years demand a trade too if we're still not any good. That's probably option #1 for him.

WE ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO TAKE CRAP BACK simply to help Bosh's bank account. If Bosh is fine making $30 mil less in New York, then good riddance. BC has more leverage in this situation than most give him credit for. This is more than likely Chris' last really big pay-day and make no mistake, he will want every single penny.
+1
When was the last time that BC arm-twisted any player or his agent in accepting a lesser deal or doing something similar? On the contrary, BC has been known to be very accomodating and try to make things work for everyone, That being said, if Bosh wants to only go to NY, there is little BC can do except fill out the sign and trade form. He is certainly not obligated to take back crap but he would be remiss to forego the TPE leaving him with no money to sign new players. What people are also forgetting that is Lee is an unrestricted free agent, so he must also agree to be traded to Toronto.

You can accomplish all that you've laid out as positives for a five year deal with the six year deal. And you assume that the next CBA will be the same when all indications are that it will be less favourable to players.

No, I'd rather sign a big new contract at age 29 than at 30.
The next CBA will be similar to the current one, for the following reasons:
1) The player's union have good lawyers too...if you expect they'll just lay down and let themselves get reamed, you are being delusional.
2) Look at how they are already alleging collusion after Stern released the new cap numbers. If they sue the NBA for abusing its monopoly powers, there is no reason to believe that the NBA will prevail (and remember, the US government generally does not look kindly on monopolies or near-monopolies who abuse their power.)
3) The economy is improving, so there will be no good arguments for the players to get substantial paycuts.
4) Players are saving up cash too in anticipation of a battle, so it isn't as you can just "starve" them out.
The NBA can say whatever they damn well please, but talk is cheap. The CBA won't change unless the economy goes into the tank again.

David Lee is going to get a max deal....so in his case, like 5-6 years, proly 14-15 mil a year

Wow. I didn't know Lee averaged 20/12 this season at 54% FG.
I still remember his rookie days while being coach by Larry Brown.

Have you been living under a rock? You know he made the all-star team right?

I knew he was an all-star this season but didn't look at his stats. I never saw him as a franchise guy or an impact player.
I was in realgm yahoo fantasy all season. Not one topic out of 200 mentioned Lee.

I bet Knicks fans wouldn't trade Lee 1:1 for Bosh.
My name is Taiyab, and I realize there is an intra-team conflict at the Point Guard spot.

Both a 5 year and a 6 year contract can have an ETO after the 4th year. So all you're doing in signing a 5 year deal is reducing your guaranteed cash. Bosh can sign a 6 year deal and if he's still healthy and the CBA looks about the same, he can opt out after year 4. There is no $ benefit at all for him to sign a 5 year deal.

EDIT: I'm a moron
#Raptors are 7-1. In 6 of the past 10 seasons, a team that has started a season 7-1 has gone on to win an NBA championship.

Gallo is a really nice player, plus you need to round out your roster with cheap rookie-deal players. I'd be adverse to trading him too. Plus it isn't as if Bosh by himself makes the Knicks a contender. Now, if Lebron leaves and says he wants CB (who from what I've seen and heard, seems to be the favorite pf of both LeBron and Wade), then you do whatever it takes to grab CB. Though realistically, Colangelo would probably bite on just David Lee in a S/T, Gallo would not have to be included..

Sorry, I don't mean a new contract, I meant an extension.

Extensions can be signed under both a 5 year and a 6 year deal after 3 years. All you're doing by signing a 5 year deal is giving up the max raises and a massive insurance policy. There is no financial benefit in signing a 5 year deal.
