However, in a letter to friends, Jones has mentioned several possible successors with local ties. They include New York Giants offensive coordinator Kevin Gilbride, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Norm Chow, San Jose State coach Dick Tomey, Texas assistant coach Duane Akina and Hawaii linebackers coach Cal Lee.

You serious??mjhp911 wrote:I've generally liked his play calling this season. But you can't fault him for wanting to get a head coaching gig somewhere. Good luck to him, if he's leaving. But concentrate on a good game plan against the 'Girls first.
Take out the past 2 weeks and his playcalling has been horrendous.

I think he would get fired here if stayed. The play calling was atrocious for most of the season. The only decent games were the first 2 of the season and the last 2. For the other 13 games, the offense has been atrocious and Gilbride should definitely take some of the blame.
The giants offense is extremely predictable. They run VERY few play-action plays even though that is when Eli is at his best. Gilbide uses the passing game when he should be using the running game (in cold and bad weather conditions) and the running game when he should be using the passing game (in good weather conditions).

Yes'm. In retrospect, Gilbride was just displaying confidence in Eli, with his aggressive playcalling. Now I didn't like it at first, but Eli rewarded him in the last few weeks of the season. And now that we're facing good teams, we've pulled the reigns back a bit. I'd keep the conservative game plan for at least one more game. I'd rather we ran and just managed the clock against Green Bay. But if we shock the world and make the Super Bowl, you HAVE TO go at New England... you can't expect to hold their offense.

Are there fans of any team that are ever happy with the playcalling? The offensive coordinator is usually the goat in most fans minds if the offense struggles. We've gone through 4 different starting RBs, a mediocore QB, a #1 WR who hasn't practiced since week 1, and #2 receiver coming off a torn ACL, a rookie #3 WR, and a TE who broke his leg. Yet when this offense fails to score 30 points, it's Gilbride's playcalling? I don't know about that.
Eli did not have a very good year and we led the NFL in dropped passes to boot, don't forget any of that.
