Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
This is one of the most amazing wet dream threads I have read in quite some time here on the CAVs board with some Dallas fans. A S&T would have to make sense for the CAVs in the long-term. Making these Gasol type (lop sided) deals are just not realistic and the CAVs would be better off letting him walk with Lebron leave money on the table. Lebron would be the first player to leave money on the table since the league changed the CBA to prevent Shaq to the Laker's scenerio a decade ago.
Lebron would also look like a hypocrite when he's made a movie about loyalty in High School about a year ago.

You can agrue about loyalty, and lop sided this lop sided that all you want, but if Cleveland were to take the DUST chip and discard some of their unwanted contracts on Dallas it would benefit the Cavs financially. That isnt a wet dream, im not sure if you really thought hard enough before you posted that reply.

Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
If Lebron wants to go to Dallas in a S&T, we would be stupid not to take back some pieces.
I really like Roddy, I think he will be an all-star, he is young and he is cheap.
If this were to go down, I would see if we can finagle a deal that included the 76ers.
Philly out: Brand, #2
Philly In: Dampier, Delonte West
Both players are "dust" chips, so this wipes away a TON of money for the 76ers.
Dallas in: Lebron, Brand
Dallas out: Roddy, Butler, Dampier, Filler
Clev. out: Lebron, West
Clev In: Roddy, Butler, #2 Pick, Filler
The deal may be able to be expanded to include some other pieces, but this would be the gyst of it.
IF we are losing Lebron this would be a great head start in rebuilding.
AV-Z
JJ-Jamison-Powe
Butler-Jamison
Turner-Green-Moon
Roddy-Mo-Gibson
We would look to move Mo if this were to happen. Maybe package the #2 pick to Minn for the #4 pick and another asset...maybe we take Favors. But our starting lineup would be very athletic and would have huge potential defensively. Our bench would have quite a bit of firepower.
This is a much better alternative than just letting Lebron walk for nothing.

I'm not going to go as far as saying that the Grizzlies got the better end of the Pau deal by any means at all but.....the Grizzlies did better than people think. They weren't going anywhere with Pau and they had him strapped in for 3 more years. By moving him they brought in his little brother who has turned out to be a franchise center, Kwame Brown's expiring which turned into Zach Randolph who played well for them and are now sitting on 3 first round picks this year. They lost Pau but were given a foundation to build on in the years following his departure. The Cavs should be looking for something similar with Bron leaves.

I think there's a better chance of Dirk ending up in Cav uniform than LeBron ending up in Mav uniform. #Fact

Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
Why in the world would Lebron want to come to Dallas?
To play with our 40yr old point guard ?
To play with our 32yr old PF that plays like a SF in a center's body?
To team up with the likes of JJ Barea, Matt Carroll,Najera and Stevenson?
To play under the great Rick Carlisle?
To play for an owner that has alienated all the officials and David Stern??
I think my fellow Mav's fans have to be on crack to
1) Think Dallas has the assets to land Lebron and
2) Think Lebron has any desire at all to play on this very old jumpshooting team

Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
At least some of the Mavs fans are starting to temper their expectations. IMO, there is NO real reason to do a sign and trade with Dallas. No, the deals proposed here are dead end deals where the CAVs would be just as well served to let Lebron walk and leave money on the table. The dust is in the over enthusiasm of some Mavs fans to believe that it is in the CAVs best interest to make side ways salary cap moves with a talent drop off that isn't much different than just letting Lebron walk and use the cap room. Spinning the Gasol trade, as a positive for the Grizzlies, is a misrepresentation that is better posted on the Mavs board than the CAVs board for a reality check.

Excellent post. I was unaware of the Cav's fan immediate disdain for Lebron should he leave. I would not blame Lebron but Ferry. Beginning with Hughes and ending above the cap with marginal players is likely to seal Lebron's departure. Of his positive notes were the luck of the ping pong balls, West, Hickson and Varejao. How many years has he been the GM? Though Cuban can be convincing and all but a few players have enjoyed playing for the man, there are better options and Sir Charle's insights are a bit simplistic. The original post was designed to deliver the best possible return for the Cavs due to the dust chip and all of your collective ignorance makes me realize why Lebron will leave. If he is in search of intelligent fans he will come to New York.

You need to do some research son. Ferry had to sign Hughes. He was not his first, or even second, choice. Luck of ping pong balls? I hope your not speaking of draft luck, because the only applicable player in your list is Hickson. Ferry has been the GM since July of 2005, i.e., right before the Hughes signing.

No signing would have been better than Hughes. Ping pong ball luck was Lebron. Hickson looks like a keeper, West as well and Verajao is a solid rotation backup. Not much for five years on the job. Not leaving cap space this year to entice Lebron back with his choice of talent is probably the worst combination of moves he has made. All told he was handed arguably the best player in history and has failed miserably at surrounding him with appropriate talent. I keep looking for posts that would improve the team and help coax Lebron in to coming back but I think your fans are too busy crying.

I always thought that NY fans were arrogant, but it seems that some Dallas fans even exceed that. Such righteous indignation because Cavs fans don't think that a deal that has in it's linchpin the expiring contract of a 34 yr old center and some marginal talent. The Cavs traded an expiring last year and got back an overpriced undersized PF. I have no idea where the arrogance comes that would think that Dallas should get the best player in the game.
Sure Hughes was a misstep, however he was still a player that helped the Cavs get to the NBA finals and helped the team to consecutive 50 win season. While the Knicks were floudering with an even bigger salary and more mediocre players.

Ferry had to sign someone. He came into an organization with a star player and a lot of cap space, it had to happen. If Ferry declined to sign anyone, and the Cavs get bounced in the first round, fans would have wanted his head on a pike? Ferry traded Damon Jones and Joe Smith for Mo Williams... only to get Joe Smith back later in the season. Jamison for the last pick in the first round? Do you have short term memory loss? If you want to talk about an organization that has failed to surround their star player with talent, then look no further than Dallas.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

This is just another delusional Knick fan who thinks that NY is the center of the basketball universe eventhough it hasn't been even remotely relevant since Ewing and was only marginally relevant then. Even without LeBron the Cavs have as much talent as NY does considering that they won't get any of the big named free agents.

The original post asked if you would rather have something for Lebron in a sign and trade versus letting him walk for nothing from the only team mentioned outside of the east. The resounding answer was to let him walk for nothing versus getting back the dust chip, an expiring small forward who would start, a potential point guard who has showed limited flashes, picks and cash. It does not matter what kind of fan I am to know Cleveland will be fools to pass on some form of sign and trade versus letting Lebron walk for no return. Not to worry, this post was dropped into the Mav's section and met with equally ignorant responses sans the whining.

Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
It has been explained repeatedly why the Dust chip does nothing for the Cavs and the 2 very late firsts don't really do anything either (unless you want to be as hypocritical about this as many others who said that Cavs first had no value). It is nothing for the most part. I just don't see what the value to the Cavs would be for trading LeBron to Dallas. Now, if there were another team that was interested in a sign and trade where the Cavs got some value, sure it might be worthwhile, but I don't see the value here.
I'm not seeing the whining that you seem to be referring to, just Cavs fans saying that if he wants to walk he can walk. Personally the most whining I see if from Knick fans wanting LeBron and advocating that their front office completely dismantle the team just so that they hail mary was available.
In fact, you appear to be the biggest whiner since you resort to namecalling when people don't agree with your point of view. Give a justification and actual credible argument and you might actually be able to get someone to agree with you.

I don't understand how I'm coming off as arrogant. I keep repeating that I don't think he's coming to Dallas, my only point is that we have the assets to make it happen if the opportunity presented itself. I just feel that we should be in the conversation, that's all.
The value of these assets is up for the debate, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm not going to be able to convince yall why this is a better option than letting him walk for nothing. If yall disagree that's fine. I'm not trying to be arrogant, simply presenting my opinion. Many of the responses have been cordial and well thought out. I don't see why everyone's jumping all over each other.

I put little stock in a Knicks fan calling Mavs fans ignorant. Have fun being a lottery pick in the weaker conference year after year when Lebron realizes there's little incentive to go to New York rather than be a complete sellout.

Re: Mavs - Cavs trade
Its understandable that a Knicks fan cant understand getting marginal talent and huge contracts isnt a positive. They have been doing it for years. They have had about the worst team outside of the Clippers for close to a decade and still think that they are relevant, as if playing in the Garden is the end all be all of basketball existence.
Now, they have a no defense coach who never won anything, and he is the guy who is going to singlehandedly coax several top level FA's to come to NY to win a title. I guess the selling point is the high NY taxes and the fact that said players wont have to exert themselves on the defensive side of the ball.
They cant seem to grasp that defense wins championships, and I guess are hoping that whatever players they think are going there wont either. Good luck with that NY, enjoy the draft lottery.
