Players looking forward to watching Ozil (imagine if this dude was playing for Turkey alongside Turan), Hamsik, Alexis Sanchez, Angel Di Maria, Mexico have some nice youth to look @ in Hernandez, Vela, and Dos Santos

:( It kills me every day seeing him and Serdar Tasci playing for Germany instead of us. I remember watching him coming off the bench at Schalke and knowing the kid would be a star. Apparently, he wanted a starting spot from the get-go...don't see why we couldn't just appease the little brat, cap him and keep him shelved for however long (not very long at all, looking at our other options) until he was ready.

Anyways, Stoch from Slovakia is another nice young player. Pretty sure Ozil will have the Youth Player award on lock though, barring any German choking and early exit.

Altidore didnt do much at hull but he has been very good internationally. His goal against Spain was a great flash of potential even though the finish wasnt great. You dont know much if you dont think Bradley is very good. He's one of the best two way players we have.

Ozil is very good. Also look at Kjaer from Denmark and Gourcuff to see if he can take that leap and full take control of the french team

I REALLY just got into soccer this year...I watched it before in the past, but I've become a huge fan this year. I'm really looking forward to the Cup. I'd like to see the U.S. make it, and they have a good shot...but you never know. Hopefully Drogba plays (one of my favorite players)...there are rumors that he's going to play injured, or not.

America?

Jozy Altidore>>>>>>>>>

Altidore hasn't proven anything yet. Granted hes young, but hes been disappointing in Europe. The kid couldn't even grab a minute over Rossi (the Italian-American) before he was loaned out and THAT kid couldn't even make the final cut for Italy :-?

Anyway, for 11 tournaments in a row, the winners have been S.American, then European, than S.American, etc. So I'll go with Argentina (despite Maradona's retarded-ness), but I'll be rooting for Cameroon.

I'm not saying he's the best, but he's my favorite player on the roster. Howard/Donavan/Dempsey and Onyewu will carry the roster, but I expect Jozy to lead the roster in goals.

He's too young and coming off too bad of a season to be expected to lead the US in scoring. This WC is more about experience for him than anything else.

If I had to bet my money is on Brazil. They're gonna win it and then the Brazilians are gonna hate them for not winning it with enough flair lmao.

Unfortunately I think you are right. This Brazil team isn't that exciting but they play tough and dirty, and have enough flair to destroy the unskilled sides.

Although for the sake of the game I hope Spain can win it. Spain and Argentina have by far the most attacking talent, but Spain has more diversity and chemistry; Villa, Xavi, Iniesta and Silva are basically telepathic.

I know some people don't care about the world cup but this is easily my favorite sporting event ever. Better than the finals - perhaps the knick drought has something to do with it? - and better by far than any other sport or football event.

The world cup is the moats interesting and accessible event in the world. You see national character represented in the way their teams play, in the players themselves. In fact we will be fielding the most international team in the cup. We have more players born to immigrants than any other team and that accurately reflects this nation.

But specifically you get to be nationalistic to the point of madness. I have a very specific order of support.

I support USA and Italy above all. Hands down.
Then I support Argentina.
Then I root against Germany, france, england and brazil.
Then I root for southern European countries over northern ones, unless it's holland vs greece or Portugal or something like that.
I root for African nations over European nations, unless it's Italy of course.
I root for south American nations over north or European nations, unless Italy or USA are involved or unless it's Brazil, who I root against.
I never root for the Asian nations but I'll take japan or south Korea over the other options.
I root against Russia unless it's against a team i like less. Same for serbia against almost anyone unless it happens to be vs Germany or England.

Very simple clear emotional rules. Great fun!

I'm very excited for Mexico vs South Africa tomorrow. I'm conflicted though. I love Mexico normally and usually root for african nations but south Africa doesn't appeal that much and their team is kinda crap. But if they win its a massive upset and I'll be excited.

Thats pretty complex lol. Any reason to the rhyme? And if you support the US you can't root for Mexico...

Not a big soccer fan, use to follow it more when I was a kid... But the World Cup is awesome, not rooting for any specific team (because I really don't know any players on any team) but I'll be watching. Should be an entertaining event while we wait for July 1

being Albanian I know exactly what you are saying this has happened so many times with our NT, players playing abroad in Europe, when we approach them they want a call-up to the senior team right away, half the swiss team will be Albanian in a few years ....guess that happens when your young you get a little successful and your ego gets inflated

As for Ozil and Turkey that really does suck, but Hiddnik is the manager now, and he has brought great success to all of the international teams he has managed, looking foward to Turkey in Euro 2012 :P

8 more years i am now in anti-Greek, Serbia, and American soccer mode now

How so? I think Bradley is one of our top 5 or 6 players. He starts for his team in the Bundesliga. He goes forward well, has a good shot, and is a sound tackler.
