Yea this doesn't make to much sense at all. Maybe if George,Aldrich,Bradley,Henry are off the board and no1 else drops. I just saw on tsn that it was a close deal & got worried.

Frustration has made this board racist. If you changed Rudy Fernandez' name to say JR Smith, people probably wouldn't be as upset.

Fernandez is the ideal 6th man scoring guard to have coming off the bench.....every team needs one. He struggled a bit with injuries and lack of role this year but I do see him bouncing back with a change sceneary. His rookie season was more than solid.

I agree.

Besides, in this draft, the difference between picking #13 and #22 is not that big.

I'm a Blazer fan.

Fernandez is awful. Probably the most overrated player in the league. Look at his stats this season. He sucks, I feel sorry for whatever team gets him.

and man, i like fernandez! but toronto is not the place for him right now. in fact, i'd probably do this deal if i were any other team- i hate this draft! i see stiffs up and down the board. the gap btwn 13 & 22 is not material. who do you want, robert swift and saer sene? = petty cash = not worth losing sleep over. but i would still object to this trade cuz fernandez would hit the floor with a bullseye on his back that has nothing to do with him.

the raps are in need of a real change in strategy. this would be just more of the same.

That would be a horrible philosphy for the Raps brass to have. Fans are idiots. They should not dictate your decisions on player personnel.

You're also a notorious Rudy hater. He played last season in a horrible system for his style and he did it with a (now hopefully fixed) back injury

I'm with ya!

I don't get all the hating on this deal. So people rather want a pick that MIGHT help us in 2-4 years?
Rudy is the spark off the bench this team needed so badly last season.

For a rebuilding team, this doesn't make a lot of sense. The contention window is a good 4 or 5 years away, imo....whether Rudy is on the roster or not is somewhat irrelevant over that timeframe. I'd much rather trade up than trade down..

And how is Jay Triano gonna do any better? Rudy is gonna be standing in the corner waiting for a pass all game. All thats gonna do is make him whine even more than he did last year.

Rudy got a lot of open shots. It doesn't matter what offense you play in, either you can shoot - or you can't. Rudy proved he can't.

Rudy also proved he cannot beat anyone off the dribble... which will be a limitation in any offense.

Rudy two years ago would have been great for this team. He was putrid last year though, do not want!

Yes, but Toronto won't do it.

I wouldn't be opposed to:

Rudy, (Mills/Pendergraph/Cunningham), #22 (Bledose/Bradley/Whiteside) for Belinelli, #13 (whoever)

That seems to be fair value. But I would ONLY be interested in the trade if one of those 3 players are left at 22.

If we can get Rudy, and Devin Ebanks for the 13th pick, what's wrong with that?

There was one making the rounds last night about the No. 13 pick to Portland for No. 22 and Rudy Fernandez. Got wind of the report too late to check with the people I check with to find out its truthfulness.

But here’s the thing. In about five minutes this morning, I was able to deduce from sources that No. 22 and Rudy are being shopped all over the league – Portland wants to move up – and, yes, Toronto is one of a handful of teams the Blazers have checked with.

It’s not Raptors-specific, it’s not just Houston and them, which is also out there on the internets. It’s a handful of teams being asked about the possibility and it doesn’t mean anything’s close to being done.

Now if last night’s story had said: The Blazers are pushing their pick and Rudy Fernandez to anyone with a higher pick who’ll listen, it wouldn’t have caused nearly as much a stir but it would have been far more accurate.

Absolutely terrible deal. Especially seeing that we would have to overpay to keep him next year or he could just go back home and get a much better contract.

I wouldnt even trade Bellinelli for him at this point

Rudy eh? I would rather try to low ball the Blazers for the injury riddled grandpa Greg Oden!

Thanks Rhettmatic, that ads some context to the talks. However this is coming from The Doug Smith right? I feel the ominous clouds gathering over head, waiting for The Hand of Colangelo to emerge :-?

It's a good deal if we were a playoff team. But we're not. So, I'm moving on.

Return to Toronto Raptors
