Hopefully Petrie is trying to get Sherron Collins and Manny Harris into camp as well. I think both bring some nice skills

HA to all those T-Wolves fans who said that they wouldn't take Johnson @ 4. For a MONTH, all I've heard about is how the T-Wolves would NEVER pass on Cousins...and LOOK what happened!
HA!
Trust me, Johnsons the real deal. Doesn't have the star potential Cousins does but I doubt he's anything less than a great 2nd option on a contender type for many, many years.
Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have been disappointed with Johnson if Cousins was off the board, but we've been hearing from T-Wolves fans since we got the 5th pick that there was NO way that Cousins would be there at #5...and we still got our man! What a day! WOOOHOOO!!!

Whiteside won't be traded. Neither will Cousins. Go ahead and exhale Kings fans. Today was a good day.
According to the Bee.

As others have said I think with Beno, Casspi, even Greene, and Cousins and Landry mid range, we need a pure point/veteran....Steve Blake.

Oh..GP made out like a bandit tonight! We go from Hawes ball to a big-man that will scrap in the paint and a very promising prospect in Whiteside. Were a big team all of a sudden lol.
I was very surprized that Whiteside dropped in the draft like he did, but I am glad we picked him
I bet we win a lot more games next season.

As much as I have hated on Petrie lately (pre-Evans), the man knows how to draft. If Cousins even has CLOSE to his college numbers in year #1, Petrie will be the NBA's GM of the year.

One of the more interesting things about our new teams is how productive practice will now be. We have all these big guys going at each other and they can make each other work in practice and not to mention our guards and small forwards are going to have the opportunity to fight through a forest of big men in practice making game time all the easier. I think we are now one of the biggest and longest teams in the league.

Thought you guys did very well in the draft. Whiteside at #33 = steal.
What is the feeling on Cousins though? Has Kings management hinted at all whether they think he can play PF or is he going to be strictly a center (I mean I figure your bigger need is at center as it is)?
I'm curious because while I was happy with the Nets drafting Favors I honestly felt there was no "right" pick between DF and DC (and to a lesser extent Monroe who would also have paired brilliantly with Lopez).

At the Kings draft party when Maloof came out and spoke he called Cousins a center.

Hassan and Cousins? Great day to be a Kings fan. God, I love this draft. Amazing Hassan dropped to us especially with some of the picks ahead who went ahead of him.

Re: The Official 2010 NBA Draft Thread
MitchWeber can vouch for me on anything I say, but I spent part of the draft process training Hassan Whiteside, and am happy that he landed in a good situation. The only reason he slipped so far is that he was dead set on being a lotto pick in his head, and didn't really workout with any team outside of the top 14. When in reality, he should have worked out for several teams in the 10-20 range. If he would have done that, he would have been off the board in the first round for sure.
Also, don't let anyone tell you Whiteside is a headcase, because it couldn't be any further from the truth. He doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, and doesn't cheat on his girlfriend. I had him in Minnesota for a workout on his 21st birthday not too long ago. I offered to set up several things for him, but instead he was in bed at his hotel at 10pm. The bad character reputation comes mostly from the media, because Hassan really needs to work on his handling of the media. He is far too confident and honest, and has also been sheltered, so it really makes him look bad in interviews.
As a player he's at least 2 years away from contributing on the court, but is an amazing reactionary defender. Help defense is his biggest strength, and I spent a lot of time helping his man to man defense. He was a lousy man defender in college, but the rules allow you to be a lot more physical with opposing players in the NBA, and Whiteside did a good job picking up on this. He can also shoot the ball quite well to 20 feet, though he doesn't have much of a back to the basket game at this point.
I hope Sacramento gives him the time to grow as a player and continue to develop as a prospect. I know he has to be disappointed about slipping so far on draft night, but like I told him, situation matters more than anything, and he is going into a good situation.

Re: The Official 2010 NBA Draft Thread
Thanks for the insight.
I really hoping that Whiteside will be apart of our young core. I think he has major potential to be a game changer defensively.
Sacramento is probably the best situation he can land out of all team. Once Dalembert is gone (he is an expiring), a trio of Cousins, Thompson and Whiteside would look great. Whiteside would finally get significant minutes to show what he has.

I don't particularly care if he smokes, drinks, or cheats on his girlfriend. At least one of the three will happen for him soon enough. I don't see him as an NBA 5. I see him as a 4. What do you think?
