Did I laugh at you? I would have taken that, and I want to think I'm not saying that in hindsight.

Was Gomes going to be happy or useful playing 15 minutes a game behind Wes Johnson? No, was he going to take minutes at PF on a team that should get all 48 of its minutes at PF from Jefferson/Love?

Probably not. Which is why you cut his a** and save $3.2 million dollars a year. Or trade him to a team needing instant cap space. Not use him to match a salary that has no business being matched.

Kahn just traded two guys with the same value for one. Babbit is the same as webster for a third/fourth of the cost.
Horrible, Horrible move, and I don't even hate webster. Guy is just overpriced(4.5 mil. a year I think) and inconsistent. Horrible. Horrible. One of my female friends want to marry him. But Horrible, horrible.
Babbit can't defend me. Webster is better then him, I really like this deal.
The point is not that he may be better than Babbit. The point is that he is paid almost four times what Babbit will be and the trade was not just webster for Babbit, but Webster for instant expiring salary + Babbit.

The problem with this board is that it's all Fantasy owners and Stats freaks. Guess what. There is more to winning basketball that jacking up shots. Maybe we need some guys that can play DEFENSE. Babbitt is not gonna defend anyone. He will get his points and give up even more. Maybe Webster can do more that put up stats.

So much for that extensive player database.

Regardless of your views on Webster, this trade demonstrates a complete failure in the ability to determine the valuation of assets. Webster is a decent player, but there is no line of owners trying to add Martell Webster for $5 mil/year.
Doing this trade is like buying a $3 pie by using two $5's.
I am sickened. I've put my time and confidence in a front office that thinks this is the deal Wolves fans are looking for?

To put things in perspective, Gerald Wallace was a career backup til he was acquired by Charlotte. Wallace was given an opportunity to thrive, and now people look at him as a very good player.
I'm not saying it'll happen for sure, but Webster could thrive given the same type of opportunity. He's been playing behind some really talented players in Portland, so maybe this change-of-scenery will help him reach his potential. It's definitely worth the risk, if you ask me.

yeah, I think he will surprise alot of people, and this could be a trade that we look back at in a few years and see we got a very good player for a bust. Webster is really growing on me.. He played only 24 minutes a game this season, and scored 10 points and grabbed 3 rebounds. He was kind of buried on the bench behind Roy whos going to play most of the minutes, and one of the best defenders in the leauge in Batum.

Have you analyzed his stats from the months when Batum was injured and Webster started?

I think that's what led them to him. He plays real well when he's given a steady 30 minutes a night.

I'm sorry but Webster is NOT what you want. His best season was this past season where he had a stretch where he was making shots. But this guy is so inconsistent and hes been in the league a long time and hasn't improved much. Babbit is ALREADY better than webster im tellin you. Martell cant dribble to save his life...now you guys got three SFs that cant dribble or create their shot...i would be devastated if i was a wolves fan...
just ask kevin love what he thinks...hahahaha

Martell is one of the better wing defenders in the league.
He's also a very solid shooter.
Very athletic
Not to good at dribbling (to high) or slashing.
Inconsistent, has confidence problems.
Didn't really fit in Portland's slow, half court offense, where he was mostly asked to wait in the corner during isolations.
Could thrive in both uptempo and triangle systems.
While it was overpaying, it might be a very good match for the T-Wolves in the end.

Re: Rumor Luke Babbit Martell Webster SWAP
I thought you might be amused by this: I was unable to watch more than the first ten picks, but I kept cutting out from my engagement to check the draft. It gave me a very odd perspective.
When I cut out at about pick 19, I learned that MIN had traded the #16 .. to POR! "OK, I guess this is the Rudy Fernandez trade," and went back.
In a few mintues I came out again, and learned our package was Gomes + #16. "Wow - that's a lot and it means we got more than Rudy," I thought. It didn't match financially, and so I ran through the POR contracts in my head and thought .. "OK, I guess this is Bayless + Fernandez. Maybe POR wanted to get out of the contract, and this might signal we're making a deal with IND for the #10."
And then I went back in.
On my third check, I discovered what this trade really was. It took me an hour to get my head around overpaying this much for a player that POR should be the one anxious to move. As the Blazers try to get Batum on the court as much as possible, $10 mil for two years of the injured Martell should not have even cost Gomes, let along the #16. My jaw was dropping all night long.
This was an awful trade. It stuns me that somebody in the wolves front office wouldn't have pointed out how badly we were overpaying for a player that nobody else was trying to get.

Looks pretty nice to me. 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 40% from 3. I think he's going to be alot better playing uptempo as well.

Kahn said he told Gomes at the end of the season exit meeting that the Wolves were not going to bring him back. So he looked at the trade as the 16 for Webster + the cap savings of ~1m a year for Gomes' terminated contract.
He didn't seem to view Gomes' contract as an asset - more as a liability.
Is there something, we don't know about Ryan's contract?
