After throwing an interception to lose against the Giants, will Favre retire?

When I come down off the ledge maybe I'll feel differently.

If he had simply stunk up the joint, I'd probably love to get him back. Bad games happen. They seem to happen in big games more often than not with Brett, but he had such an amazing season that I'd welcome him back with open arms.

But it's the cold thing that absolutely kills me. This is two games now in the last month that he's looked like a broken down old man that couldn't take the cold. I'm sorry, but that's what weather in Green Bay is going to be like come December. He's long said that he hates the cold weather, but it's only been this season that he's actually played like it.

Myself and the people I watched the game with tonight were absolutely disgusted with Favre and the way he acted out there. He was visibly affected by the cold and when the offense needed some fire and some leadership and a spark, he looked like he only wanted to be under his big-ass jacket with his hand warmers.

I'm not going to vote, but right now I'm ready to move on despite his MVP caliber season. Maybe in a couple days I feel different.

There is a lot of blame to go around tonight. The pick hurt but so did a lot of other things.

Can't blame this game solely on him, even though his play will stand out most in people's minds.

I don't think he retires. We had the youngest team in football and we went 14-4. We have few holes and a great GM.

I hope and think he comes back.

That's a stat I wish wouldn't be thrown around so much.

Yes, we were the youngest team top to bottom. But in terms of starters we were right there in the middle of the pack in terms of age. Favre, Driver, Tauscher, Clifton, Franks, KGB, Kampman, Pickett, Barnett, Harris, Woodson...this isn't their first time around the block.

Where the ranking comes from is the fact that our roster is filled with backups with little NFL experience. Instead of filling out the roster with vets and the end of their careers, TT loaded it with youth. The fact that we suffered so few major injuries all year huge because we would have been relying on guys that have yet to play meaningful football.

As I said in another thread

Comet wrote:No doubt that Favre will be back next season. The reason he's been coming back the past few seasons is because he's still hungry for a championship. Well, now he's hungrier than ever, because now the Packers are among the elite teams in football and they are just a player or two away from perhaps winning the Super Bowl next year.

Why would Favre go out on a note like this? I'd be shocked if Favre retired now.

If Favre retired as a champion then it's perfect.

But don't you think it's, regardless of the temperature, kind of disappointing to see a legend like Favre have his career end in an OT upset loss in the NFC Championship Game? I'm not saying anything's a guarantee, but I'm confident Favre will be back.

To bad Favre can't play Seattle every playoff game...I believe his only 2 good playoff games since the Denver loss have both been against Seattle.

Brett clearly can't handle the cold like he once did and i don't doubt age is part of why, i'm close to his age and can't tolerate cold like i used to.

That's why it's s baffling that McCarthy acted like we were playing in California on a 70 degree day, lining up all the time in 3-4 WR sets and passing as if the throwing game was clicking great.

Coughlin never stopped running, even during times it wasn't producing much. It was shocking how quickly McCarthy gave up on the run during a game that had a -25 below wind chill. Mike treated Grant like the guy was a scrub that never broke big runs after a slow start.

As for Brett coming back, my only concern is that it leads to Rodgers asking for a trade.

As a Bears fan I hope he retires. But there is no way Favre goes out with this taste in his mouth. And as much as I don't like Favre, I respect him, and nobody ever wants to see one of the games best go out on a low note.

WSSP had Mike Clements on around midnight tonight.....he said he saw Favre Friday night getting ready for the game.....he said Favre seemed down....a very different guy than what he's used to in the past....almost like he was dreading the weather.

The other thing that surprised me were Favre's comments in the postgame where he seemed to imply the team overlooked the Giants....he kept saying something along the lines that the Packers were shocked to lose because they were supposed to go the Super Bowl the way things lined up.

I'm not sure this team can get to and/or win a Super Bowl with Favre right now given his struggles in the playoffs, so I'm somewhat ambivelent here. But I also would guess it's plausible this team doesn't even make the playoffs with a different QB. I think tonight Rodgers would have done a better job, but I'd also acknowledge we don't even know if Rodgers can play a full season without getting injured.

I say Brett comes back and we have to figure out how to get a better running game (guards and a battering ram RB) and get an impact defender. That would help Brett out a lot.

One thing that was strange is that in both very cold weather games this year where Brett clearly seemed to being having problems with the cold, McCarthy treated the games almost as if it was 70 degrees with little wind. No commitment to the running game at all in either game, way to quick to just have Brett fling passes all over the field.

I'm a big fan of Grant, but the run game on the year did seem a bit to big play or nothing. We held the Giants to 3.4 a carry, but they still did get quite a few of those 3-4-5-6-7 yard runs that help down/distance so it's not always 3rd and 8-9-10 or get first downs.

McCarthy seems much quicker to abandon the run if we have a couple 0-2 yard runs in a row.

As for Brett coming back, only 2 concerns for me

1. Will Rodgers speak up and ask for a trade

2. Brett is reminding me more of myself. I'm also in my 30's and the last 4-5 years or so, my tolerance of cold weather has nosedived. In my 20's, i'd have loved to be at todays game, now though, i wouldn't have gone even with free tickets. Brett looks the same, hate of the cold vs just not liking it.

You are correct El Dude on the age thing...I'm 41 and you just don't have the energy or tolerance you once did. Favre doesn't either.

The running game with Grant was a mirage.....all season long we had no serious ground game like you normally would associate with a "serious ground game". Our short yardage and goal line packages were terrible.

Grant is a home-run hitter RB who happened to reel off some amazing long runs that padded his stats. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have him......but Green was a better all around back.

Brett has been pretty crappy in post season for a long time now. I love Brett but he's not all that in the post season.

Brett retire? I don't think so. I'm OK either way.

I doubt Rodgers asks for a trade.

I think he's leaving. He can't handle the cold anymore and that is all part of the NFL season. I'm going to hate to see him go though. He's always been amazing to watch. I think Rodgers starts next year and we win the division with 10 or 11 wins.

Well, San Francisco and Seattle anyway. He's had two good playoff games against them as well since then.
